The sky turns red over the potholes at Hospitals Reef.
This is the fourth in a series of five photos I took during one of the most amazing displays of light and color I have had a chance to see. It is my favorite photo from the trip and will bring back good memories for many years to come.
Since the first time I saw photos of the potholes on Hospitals Reef I hoped one day I would have a chance to see and photograph them. My opportunity came up during a recent trip to San Diego. I spent the first day scouting the reef with Flickr friend Eric Gail. As it got closer to sunset I set up and hoped for some good light and as it turned out the weather gods delivered. Over the course of about two hours I just stood in the same spot and took different photos of the potholes as the light and colors changed.
Hospitals Reef is truly an amazing place. You can get great photos there any time, but with the right tide level and good light it really becomes a photographer's playground with the amazing rock formations, potholes, and tide pools.

A great memory from my last year trip to the North Coyote Butte (Wave). It was taken at the top rock in late afternoon with the view of Utah/Arizona border.through the window.
This was also the only spot I got cellular signal in the entire Wave area, so I can call home and sent out the moment in my Wechat app:-)

It i quite amazing how far technology has been able to advance the quality of images captured on a tiny cell phone! I made this image in a local ravine with a Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra.

This creative sculpture "Cellular" by Olga Ziemska is located in the Westin in downtown Cleveland. To proivde some perspective the entire head is 12' high, 10' wide and 6' deep. Made with reclaimed local wood slices, it is a unique, beautiful piece of art. Enjoyed a nice visit there including exploring the Cleveland Museum of Art and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
