We accidentally stumbled across this restaurant on the way back to our hotel. We just stepped straight in and eat. As we passed by that evening there was a huge queue to eat snaking down the alley and onto the street. We counted ourselves lucky to have been able to get in so easily. It dates from 1895 I think. What a find. Go there and eat it is brilliant. It was also very cheap. Fantastic value. This is the main dining room. You can see the wonderful hat racks and the fantastic glass ceiling.
Earlier that day, I had to do something I never get used to participate in yet another round of downsizing at work. For the third time in the same company, I found myself either letting people go, being let go, or sitting in the gut-wrenching limbo in between.

This time, I wasn’t part of the cut but it didn’t make it any easier.
Instead, I lay there, heavy with guilt. Watching immigrant colleagues, hardworking and kind, lose their jobs in a harsh economical situation in a northen country that doesn't favor them in the labour market.
I’ve been there... Many times.

memories of old of past terminations throughout my career, and other colleagues whom i haven't seen again since their termination, where they had to go back to their country of origin due to visa issues.
It’s was just a ceiling light But that night, it became the silent witness of the storm.
a Storm in their lives and in my mind, and it kept company throughout the night till the morning when i had to go back to work, to continue witness the rest terminations.
with no signle minute of rest, or eyelid shut.
this ceiling light was the only thing watching me spiral through another sleepless night.

Inside the Old Mint (San Francisco)
Built in 1874 during the gold rush, the Old Mint was once the busiest mint in the United States. One of the last government buildings constructed in the Greek Revival style, it is also the city's oldest stone buildings. The mint operations were moved to a new facility in 1933.
The Old Mint has been closed and abandoned since 1993, threatened by demolition until the federal government transfered the building ownership to the city of San Francisco in 2003.

I love lighting....any kind of lighting. not really their illumination but the objects, structures themselves. wall lights, ceiling lights, lamps, lamp posts, strip lights, halogen spotlights....etc, etc... you get the picture.
