After our sultry hike to see turtles, we stopped at a local bar and grill by the name of the Tropics. It was Sunday, and so the locals were eagerly watching football like good red-blooded Americans. Most seemed to be partisans of the San Francisco 49ers, perhaps because it's one of the closer teams geographically speaking to Hawai'i, which lacks an NFL franchise. My beloved Tampa Bay Buccaneers had played earlier in the day, and the screen just glowed with two word all the way through our meal: "Bucs Win." I was somehow more elated by this than I perhaps should have been. The food was nothing to write home about but tasty enough for a pub. The Tropics did, however, feature a fanciful mural depicting th life cycle of anthropomorphic hops from their birth out in Sierra Nevada farms to their self-sacrifice in the brewery. The Frozen figures (in honour of the holidays, perhaps?) in front of the picture were a tad out of place, but overall a very jolly scene. Ma Sunshine is taking it all in.

Hazel sitting waiting to sample a Singapore Sling in The Long Bar at Raffles Hotel, Singapore. Complimentary peanuts are provided on each table and people are encoraged to discard the empty nutshells onto the floor, possibly the only place in the city where littering is tolerated. Punkah wallah ceiling fans are still used, though these are now electically, rather than manually operated.
Taken inside the wonderfully kitschy Clarke's restaurant. I love those orange and blue ceiling tiles!
Being extremely silly testing my ability to precisely toss and spin my camera. The object of the experiment was to match the spin of the ceiling fan blades so that they appear non moving while everything else moves.
