The harmonious interior equals the exterior in its incomparable beauty. Stunning tracery windows create an ethereal lighting effect in the sanctuary. The cathedral has more than 1,800 square metres of stained-glass windows dating from the 13th to the 20th centuries. The oldest windows are the rose windows and those in the middle choir chapels. Also notice the magnificent 15th- to 16th-century choir stalls, which were carved by Flemish craftsmen. On the north side of the cathedral is a beautiful cloister in the Plateresque style, built in the 14th century and altered in the 16th. The frescoes in the cloister were created by Nicolás Francés. The cathedral museum collection is arranged in the rooms around the cloister. One of the most extensive collections of its kind, the museum displays many exceptional treasures of religious art. Like every year, this year too I went to Kolkata (Calcutta) for Bengal's biggest festival, Durga Puja. Once again, the creativity on display at the pandals had me mesmerised. Here is the ceiling of one such pandal. I love the psychedelic feel of the photo!

The awe-inspiring vaulted ceiling suspended above the ancient brick walls of the Jerusalem Church's octagonal tower. This was a difficult shot to get because we weren't able to access the room directly below the ceiling. I had to push my camera through an iron grill in a door in the main church. Both Magda and I used this technique, through different doors, without knowing we had done the same thing. We laughed about it afterwards.

The ceiling at Leake Street doesn't get as much attention as the walls, for obvious reasons, but when it does the work is usually stunning. Forground is by Psychodoodlz, with the entrance to The Vaults at the bottom right. The portrait bottom left is the work of Olivier Roubieu.
The ceiling of the 203 foot long nave is covered with Victorian paintings as a kind of Jesse tree, tracing the ancestry of Christ. It was the work of two artists, Henry Styleman Le Strange, who painted the first six panels (counting from the west), and Thomas Gambier Parry, who painted the last six - you can observe a change of style between the sixth and seventh panels.
Quite a busy shot but I love the roof on show at Leadenhall Market. I must try to go back here and take another shot where I'm standing right underneath looking up.

Taken with an Olympus E-P2 using a Panasonic 14mm lens, edited from RAW in LR5, and cleaned up a little noise-wise in Dfine.
The 14mm Panasonic lens is just wonderful. This was taken hand-held, and even in remarkably little light using ISO 1600 on the E-P2, good information was picked up in RAW. The larger image shows clear definition when cropped down even at this distance.
I'd've liked the windows at the back not to be haloing, but it was mid-day when this was taken, so light intrusion was to be expected when metering in such a dark building.
The Panthéon is a building in the Latin Quarter in Paris, France. It was originally built as a church dedicated to St. Genevieve, but after many changes now combines liturgical functions with its role as a famous burial place. It is an early example of Neoclassicism, with a façade modelled on the Pantheon in Rome, surmounted by a small dome that owes some of its character to Bramante's "Tempietto". Located in the 5th arrondissement on the Montagne Sainte-Geneviève, the Panthéon looks out over all of Paris. Its architect, Jacques-Germain Soufflot, had the intention of combining the lightness and brightness of the gothic cathedral with classical principles. Soufflot died before his work was achieved, and his plans were not entirely followed. The transparency he had planned for his masterpiece was not attained. Nevertheless, it is one of the most important architectural achievements of its time and the first great neoclassical monument.
