These little vessels never cease to invoke a happy feeling and a smile on my face.

I also love lying in the water like that, LOL.

More gathered from all over.

The light was just fabulous as you can see, M, (*_*)

"Every child is born blessed with a vivid imagination. But just as a muscle grows flabby with disuse, so the bright imagination of a child pales in later years if he ceases to exercise it."

have you ever in life been told to be too old for something? or that you've outgrown that stage when you're watching kids' tv shows? I have. many, many times. and I refuse to agree with people. I think there is no such point in life when kids should be turned into adults, letting go of what they love and changing who they are just because they've reached a certain age. society tells us too much anyways when to grow up, when to no longer watch Disney movies, and when to say good bye to your childish self. to me, growing up is about getting to know how to be responsible about what you're doing, to learn how to handle things yourself. but it doesn't go hand in hand with forgetting about imagination, childhood memories, and just being a child from time to time. I will never in my life stop watching Disney movies, and I will continue drinking hot chocolate out of my 101 Dalmatians mug with a straw, nobody will ever keep me from having fun in bouncing castles, and I will forever laugh about whatever cherishes my mind - I will never say good bye to my inner child, no matter what age I'll turn.

the concept above goes to me so well with growing up and being torn between childhood and the time when we are told to take on responsibilities instead of finding ourselves still in imaginary worlds. we find ourselves being pulled out of that worlds, only few decide to hold on to what they should later think about their most carefree and happiest times of their lives. this is actually the first concept I've been happy with in a long, long time. and yes, it may be grainy and the processing is far from being perfect, but I love it. and to me it brings across exactly what I wanted to say with it.

Never ceases to amaze the photographer that wildlife love to give photographers the raspberry treatment. In this case, a cow caribou sticks her tongue out. Taken on a frozen river in April, the caribou will stay on ice as much as possible during spring. The mosquitoes come out in spring and survive in near freezing conditions and they are a constant harassment to the caribou. While walking on grasses, their hoofs will sink in the ground and the mosquitoes will come out of the soft grasses. By staying on the frozen ice, they have a buffer from the bites and constant harassment.

Dutching usually gives me a headache, but I'm pretty happy with how this one turned out. This is another shot where I'm not sure what it is I like, but like I do. Silhouette? Wide angle? Monochrome? Combination of the three? Anyway.

My stream was yet again getting all pretty and naturey. I wouldn't say that this is grungy, but it's at least a departure. I almost uploaded yet another tree shot. I'm trying really hard to avoid that path. It's just not me enough. I think the 'burbs are killing my metropolitan sensibilities.

This is going to sound pretty bratty, but I have to say that I'm not impressed with the amount of grain. This is ISO 1600. I think I'm going to need to buy one of those de-noise-ifying programs. Digital grain is not my friend.

Trying to get back into blogging regularly, so here's a post.

Racing past the closed station at Buangor bound for Ararat as 8195, P16 on hire from V/line passenger leads the 'Leeor Loop Leap Year' 707 Operations special with T413 at the rear, operating in a push pull formation due to having no run around track at its destination.

Once in Ararat, passengers changed trains to the SG special to Kaniva near the South Australian border for lunch.

Whilst heritage trains often venture past Bacchus Marsh usually to Ballarat, the P class are confined to operating no further than Bacchus Marsh on V/line passengers UP morning peak services.

A BG heritage train (excluding the DERM - Diesel Electric Rail Motor) has not visited Ararat yet in the 21st century due to line closures, conversions to SG and no run around available at Ararat.

A 5pm statement released by TfGM on Friday 21st March 2023 read: "TfGM was today, Friday 21 April, informed by the owner of Little Gem that they plan to stop running contracted bus services, with the last day of operation being Saturday 22 April.

The operator currently runs several school and local bus services.

Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) has arranged emergency cover for several bus routes set to be withdrawn in Manchester, Trafford, Tameside and Stockport.

However, currently, no emergency cover has been found for general bus services 44, 84, 217, 260, 261, 262, 280, 288 and 375. TfGM is tendering all Little Gem services, with a view to new contracts starting on Tuesday 2 May.

In arranging emergency cover, priority was given to school services and those routes where passengers have fewer travel options."

After the sunlight ceased to illuminate the icebergs floating in Lago Dickson (previous Patagonia post), we left the pebble beach, and wandered slowly back toward camp to prepare dinner. The dining 'room' was a small clearing on an eroded ledge about 20 feet above the lake shore, looking out over the water. Unfortunately, the abundant and hungry mosquito population also thought this a fantastic place to spend an evening. Whether they enjoyed the view, or just our exposed flesh, I'll never know. However, it was not long before the wind picked up a little, and as we hastily washed dishes and cleaned up after our pasta, the sun began to set, and the clouds boiled over the mountains at the entrance to the Valle Escondido. The Valle extends upward and to the left in the photo.

I scrambled down to the beach with my hiking buddy, a friend I've known since we first backpacked into the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State for 6 days by ourselves when we were seventeen years old. We walked northwards up the beach, and what you can't see here is that the clouds were in dynamic and rapid motion, literally boiling and churning in what strongly resembled a vortex. Pity I didn't have the wherewithal to make a video. All I could muster was this shot, and then I stood agape, head tilted upward, for quite some time. What was interesting is that among the nearly 80 people camped at the shores of Lago Dickson that night, only Jarrod and myself were out walking the water's edge to take it in. This is why I go backpacking! I could not believe we had the entire experience exclusively to ourselves with such a crowd so close by the show. What were the other people camping out here for, if not for this?

For the Anniversary of My Death

Every year without knowing it I have passed the day

When the last fires will wave to me

And the silence will set out

Tireless traveller

Like the beam of a lightless star

Then I will no longer

Find myself in life as in a strange garment

Surprised at the earth

And the love of one woman

And the shamelessness of men

As today writing after three days of rain

Hearing the wren sing and the falling cease

And bowing not knowing to what

— W. S. Merwin

On the Last Day of the World

On the last day of the world I would want to plant a tree

~W. S. Merwin

On the last day of the world, I would want

to feed you. Raspberries. Thin slices of apple.

Peaches so ripe they drip down our chins,

down our necks. I would want to sit with you

beneath a tree, no we’ll climb a tree, no

we’ll plant a tree, yes all of these. On the last

day of the world, I want to give myself permission

to feel exactly what I feel, to be exactly who I am,

to shed every layer of should and meet you

that way. Knowing we have only hours left,

could we put down our arguments with ourselves

and each other and find no energy to pick them up again?

On that day, I want us to write the last poem

together and let the writing undo us, let it teach us

how to get out of the way, how to obey what emerges.

Let’s run outside, no matter the weather, and praise

the light till the light is gone, and then praise the dark.

— Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer

Black on Black

My grandmother loved me with a thick accent

spoke to me Yemeni words

I never understood,

and as a child

I remember

how scared I was to stay alone with her

out of fear that I wouldn’t understand the tongue in her mouth

which she kept singing to me with a smile.

I didn’t understand

a single word she said

the sounds far, far away

even when she spoke closely.

Once

I remember,

she bought me a pineapple yogurt

and after I punched a hole with my thumb

in the thin aluminum lid

and drank it all,

I wanted to say thank you

but didn’t know

which language to use,

so I went to the big garden

plucked a flower

and handed it to her,

sheepishly.

I remember

how much awkwardness stood between us

of one blood

and two muted tongues.

She washed the yogurt cup

silently

filled it with water

and placed the flower in it.

I never understood

a word she said,

my grandmother,

but I understood her hands

I understood her flesh

even though she never

really understood

the words I said

and simply loved my little body

the daughter of her daughter.

And sometimes the heart asks

strange things for itself

like to learn Yemeni

and return to her grave

lay lips to the earth

and cry into it

all that that little girl had to say

and mainly to warn her

that the flower I’d given her

was full of ants.

The photographer took this view of a new looking Ford Thames Trader articulated lorry which had plunged down into a valley. Stout chains are attached to the back axle either to stabilise it or try and drag it back.

No details are on the slide mount but it was among his holiday pictures, the card mount is dated May 1964*

*I have dated the slide as April, back in film days it could take weeks or months between the first and last exposures on a roll of 36 slides. When a film returned from Kodak (if it did) all the mounts received the processing date, not the date they were taken.

some classic stuff

Went on a house tour Saturday. Took this shot in the backyard area of one of the houses on a farm. There are times when the elements of a composition and the lighting just present themselves perfectly... of course, you have to see it... :) The animals arranged themselves diagonally and seem to be walking toward the fading afternoon light, all implying motion. The way the sheep looked back at me, almost asking me to come along with them, was priceless. Even the house in the upper right adds balance to the whole scene and that red splotch on the one rooster draws the eye forward to the upper right. In a good photo, each of the elements adds to the whole and if you remove even one of the elements... the barn with the closed door, the house in the upper right, even the tree in the upper center, the photo ceases to be as strong an image.

Nature never ceases to amaze me. I've walked this path several times and have never noticed this bent tree before. This is probably because other foliage obscurred the view. However, in early spring, this remarkable tree was easy to spot just a metre off the edge off the path. It is very close to the edge of a stream. I suspect its roots were unearthed during a high-water event, and that both ends sought nourishment from the life-sustaining soil.

Lovely View On Black

Scripture: Luke 2:36-40

And there was a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phan'u-el, of the tribe of Asher; she was of a great age, having lived with her husband seven years from her virginity, and as a widow till she was eighty-four. She did not depart from the temple, worshiping with fasting and prayer night and day. And coming up at that very hour she gave thanks to God, and spoke of him to all who were looking for the redemption of Jerusalem. And when they had performed everything according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city, Nazareth. And the child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom; and the favor of God was upon him.

This dog never ceases to amaze me. I was doing this shoot, and he was a bit uncomfortable on the stool, kept going up then quickly hopping down. But I got some good stuff.

On the last set I was planning to do, I asked him to put his chin down, something which I touched on in training but never really worked on it with him, just for kicks. Figured he'd give me a puzzled look and hop off the stool. Well, surprise, he did it and held it for several seconds! I love this dog.
