WELS Multi-Language Productions (MLP) is partnering with the Bethany Lutheran College Fine Arts department to produce illustrations of Bible stories and Catechism lessons for use in world mission fields. Fourteen ELS/WELS artists came together alongside Rev. Dr. Terry Schultz, Artistic Development Missionary for MLP, to illustrate 54 Biblical accounts for use in Zambian Sunday Schools. Church leaders in Zambia plan to distribute these illustrations for use as inexpensive, impactful visual aids in Sunday School classes.
The “Images of Grace,” exhibition is available from August 31-September 27, 2022 in the Ylvisaker Fine Arts Center Gallery. A special gallery reception was held on September 1 at 7 p.m. (pictured). It include a panel discussion with Rev. Dr. Terry Schultz; Rev. Larry Schlomer, WELS World Missions Administrator; Professor Andrew Overn, Art Director; and various contributing artists.
This exhibit represents the beginning of an ongoing project and partnership between Bethany’s Art Department and Multi-Language Productions.
From Wikipedia: The Grand Marian Procession is intended to promote religious catechism through publicly parading images outside the Manila cathedral on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception.
In addition, the Cofradia is known for selecting more than ninety of the most prominent and liturgically inspiring Marian images in the country, most notably the ones featured, as the canonically crowned images in the Philippines, such as the Our Lady of La Naval de Manila and Our Lady of Manaoag.

Manuscript title: Codex Testeriano Bodmer
Manuscript summary: Testeriano denotes catechism manuscripts in a pictographic script attributed to the Franciscan friar and missionary Jacobo de Testera (16th century). Writing had already developed in 12th century Central America as a mixture of ideograms, pictograms and phonetic symbols, but the original handwritten witnesses thereof were destroyed in the Spanish Conquest in the 16th century. In order to communicate with the indigenous population, Christian missionaries later adopted this writing system, but they invented many symbols since the goal was to communicate a new, Christian content. For instance, three crowned heads represent the Trinity and thus God, while two crowned heads with key and sword represent the apostles Peter and Paul. The manuscript is read from left to right across both pages; different parts are separated by decorative vertical vignettes. The manuscript contains several short prayers (among them pp. 1v-2r Persignum, 2v-4r Ave Maria, 4v-8r Credo) and a long prayer (pp. 27v-35r) which represents a repetition of the Christian doctrine.
Origin: Mexico
Period: 16th century

Adam woke me up this morning with "Papa, how do you say 'yellow' in Spanish?" The Castellano color learning continued over breakfast. It reminded me that this color quiz video from 18 months back never got uploaded. Alek has progressed a lot since 'uh geen'.

The catechism in pictures is an exceptional educational work in the teaching of the Catholic faith. The first edition in English dates from 1912, but it is a translated version of the original French edition of 1908. A nun signed this copy on July 31, 1938, 80 years ago! The catechism today is a very thick book that is not very convenient for reading. If this book is easy for a child to read, then you will enjoy seeing and reading its content. You can download it in full by accessing the album that contains all these images. Good reading !

Religious education leaders gather in preparation of new year
By Ambria Hammel, The Catholic Sun
Sept. 6, 2007
This fall catechists will begin forming young Catholics according to Church teaching. But they won’t do it without receiving some formation themselves.
Nearly 200 faith formation leaders took advantage of two daylong retreats last month. They prepared themselves spiritually and logistically to shepherd students in religious education programs.
Youth leaders and their volunteers — known as core leaders — attended Life Teen’s Core Member University Aug. 18 while catechists and other lay ministers attended a day of reflection Aug. 22 at the Diocesan Pastoral Center.
