.. the beginnings of fall as the leaves catch the filtered light

Here at this anglers paradise, with fish breaking the water's surface sending tell-tale ripples silently away, with dragonflies hovering over the stillness of the waters, swallows swooping and diving with never a sound, rabbits ever attentive to my every movement, and geese and their young sailing gently, smoothly, silently along. No man stands but I.

The fishing boats lie wasted, as still as the day, and a sign stands before all.

Even the most common birds can sometimes be the subject of beautiful photographs :)

Better viewed larger. Just click in the image, or press "L".

Hopefully this will appeal to more than just the birders here on Flickr. The birds were flying and swooping down to dip their bills in the surface of the lake. I can only assume there was a lot of insects or larvae at the surface, and they were feeding. The gull is not landing or taking off.

Hoping you are having a restful Sunday :)

I will catch up with most of you throughout the day. Having been out in the countryside for most of the last week, I'm having a day at home to recuperate!

Shot this with my Sigma 1.4 50mm at sunset. The children where jumping when the sun went down. The light of the sun was perfect.

Four fishermen are about to unload two large containers filled with their fresh fish catch from their vessel unto a makeshift raft which will carry them to a nearby wholesale fish market at the town proper of Subic, Zambales, Philippines.

Meanwhile, a former construction worker tries to catch some fish from a raised concrete platform with the use of a nylon string with a hook and bait attached on its end.

This Snake neck bird had this good catch on the Nile in Murchison Falls National Park in Uganda. And I was able to follow him very well with my camera, which gave me some nice shots!

Eastfield depot's 27038 catches the late afternoon sun as it climbs the 104 gradient across Markinch viaduct with 8P45 1625 Thornton Yard to Perth Yard mixed goods. What I wouldn't give to see the likes again.

Regarding the viaduct itself, the following is from the excellent Canmore site.

Markinch Viaduct, opened 1847 by the Edinburgh and Northern Rly. A handsome 10-span viaduct, with small single semicircular arches at each end and 8 main arches, all semicircular. The arch rings are of dressed stone, rustic ashlar, and the spandrels of coursed rubble. Iron tie-rods have been inserted in the spandrels.

Barred Owl with a catch on a cold winter morning. As I stood well back watching from a distance it was interesting how cautious the owl was constantly looking side to side and behind as it slowly consumed the meal.

"HUH, I got him! Told you Marble! I told you!"

"You were right, Phillip!"

"You can now call me Big Bear Fish King."

"Fine, just reel him in."

"Excuse me, what's my name?"

"Big Bear Fish King."

"Say it in a sentence!"

"UGH, reel that darn thing in Big Bear Fish King."

Candid street photography from Glasgow, Scotland. Some beautiful natural catch lights in her eyes and reflected rim lighting too. Sometimes you get some unexpected lighting effects and directions in the city and the results can be beautiful. Enjoy.

Although the MAX Orange Line doesn't open until next Thursday September 12th they are testing a full schedule of light rail, street car, and buses until then; which together with street, bike, and pedestrian traffic all crisscross at this wonderfully busy intersection. NB37227-39

I had just enough time after work to catch a few bluegills in Lake Meyer before the sun went down. This is the last bluegill that I will catch during the open water season as the local lakes and ponds will be covered with ice next week. This is also the last fish I'll catch on a fly rod in 2024 as I put the fly rod away now until next spring. The air temperature was 34 F (1 C) while I held this bluegill and the water temperature was 37 F (3 C). By the end of the day my fingers felt numb but it was still fun!

That is the right challenge for Danilo. He likes to catch something. We did a similar photo in week 3 with food. For the challenge he catched the ball sure.
