α Geminorum.

Episode 5 in the Caster Cottage series. Even though I've named it Caster House in the image. I think I couldn't make up my mind.

Ricinus communis, the castorbean[2] or castor-oil-plant,[3] is a species of flowering plant in the spurge family, Euphorbiaceae. It is the sole species in the monotypic genus, Ricinus, and subtribe, Ricininae. The evolution of castor and its relation to other species are currently being studied using modern genetic tools.[4] It reproduces with a mixed pollination system which favor selfing by geitonogamy but at the same time can be an out-crosser by anemophily or entomophily.[1]

Its seed is the castor bean, which, despite its name, is not a true bean. Castor is indigenous to the southeastern Mediterranean Basin, Eastern Africa, and India, but is widespread throughout tropical regions (and widely grown elsewhere as an ornamental plant).[5]

Castor seed is the source of castor oil, which has a wide variety of uses. The seeds contain between 40% and 60% oil that is rich in triglycerides, mainly ricinolein. The seed also contains ricin, a water-soluble toxin, which is also present in lower concentrations throughout the plant.

An unrelated plant species, Fatsia japonica, is similar in appearance and known as the false castor oil plant.

The statue of Castor, guarding with his Pollux twin the access to the Campidoglio in Rome. Castor and Pollux are known as Dioscuri or Gemini.

This is a variant on the classic approach, in which the statue is set against the blue sky. In case you prefer one version over the other, I would be grateful if you let me know. TYVMIA.

I was waiting in my hide for a few hours trying to see some ducks when this visitor came beside me. He cleaned himself and leaved without notice i was there.

This is the fruit of a castor plant, or castor bean plant, Ricinus communis. I enhanced the contrast a little with The Gimp. The plant grows quite large, taller than I am, and the fruit is roughly the size of a table tennis ball. The plants are grown as ornamentals, and castor oil is derived from them. So is ricin, which is a poison.

Larger sizes are available.

To see a photo of an entire plant, go here. You can see less mature fruits in the right foreground, and elsewhere.

Beavers are known for their natural trait of building dams on rivers and streams, and building their homes (known as "lodges") in the resulting pond.

The North American beaver (Castor canadensis), also called the Canadian beaver (which is also the name of a subspecies), American beaver, or simply beaver in North America, is native to Canada, much of the United States and parts of northern Mexico.
