Castor and Pollux, the twin 4,000-metre summits, lie in the chain of peaks linking the Breithorn and the Monte Rosa massif. Castor’s summit is on Italian territory. Castor is a mountain in the Pennine Alps on the border between Valais, Switzerland and the Aosta Valley in Italy. It is the higher of a pair of twin peaks, the other being Pollux, named after the Gemini twins of Roman mythology. Castor's peak is at an elevation of 4225 m and it lies between Breithorn and the Monte Rosa. It is separated from Pollux by a pass.

It is separated from Castor by a pass at 3846 m.

Not a Butterfly, but taken with my macro. I was walking with a couple of friends in Elk Island National Park on a trail appropriately called "Beaver Bay". We were carrying only our macro lenses, as we were looking for small things.
We heard a crash in the wooded area ahead of us which borderd a bay of Astotin Lake there.
When we got to a clearing by the lake, we encountered this very large Beaver which had just felled a small poplar.
We and other hikers watched this guy drag the tree from the woods to the lake about 20 M away. A unique experience for me.

Sedert een week volg ik enkele bevers in de buurt.
Normaal zie je ze niet zo vaak overdag maar omdat ze nu met jongen zitten en de nachten zo kort zijn beginnen ze rond 19 uur voedsel te zoeken .Dit wijfje is wel 130cm lang.Als ze me waarneemt komt ze steeds weer aangezwommen tot op enkele meters afstand en blijft me dan soms een minuut lang roerloos observeren.Dan gaat ze verder met het vellen van jonge wilgen waarvan ze de bast en bladeren verorbert.Ook neemt ze veel tijd om haar vacht te onderhouden.

This very curious beaver was swimming past us and having a good look assessing whether we were friend or foe.

While visiting the Tegenungan Waterfall I came across this beautiful Castor Butterfly. Fortunately, it stopped moving long enough for me to capture this image. I was impressed with its orange-brown wings adorned with intricate wavy patterns.
Immature fruit of the castor, or castor bean, plant, Ricinus communis. The plants grow wild in Southern California, and elsewhere, although they are not a New World plant. They can grow to 3 meters/yards tall. The plants can be harvested, and the results are used for castor oil, among other things. The poison, ricin, is also derived from this plant.

Anfang April 2025 rollte der dritte Castorzug in den letzten fünf Jahren durch Deutschland, der dieses Mal sieben Castoren quer durch die Republik nach Niederaichbach nahe Landshut ins dortige AKW Isar zur Zwischenlagerung brachte. Der Zug wurde dabei von zwei Helikoptern der Bundespolizei sowie unzähligen Streifenwagen begleitet.
In Fahlenbach fanden sich zahlreiche Fotografen ein, um den Zug mit den charakteristischen Haubenwagen und den vielen Begleitwagen zu fotografieren.
Ich entschied mich für eine seitlichere Variante mit etwa zwei Dritteln des gewaltigen Zuges und den zwei Streifenwagen. Nicht zu sehen ist der Helikopter, der während der Zugdurchfahrt über uns gekreist ist.
Hoffen wir, dass diese Transporte künftig nicht mehr nötig sein werden!
