Paul Smith Shop Façade
Designed by 6a Architects for Sir Paul Smith, Nicola Koller and Nicholas Chandor
This new façade for a shopfront uses cast iron, a traditional material found on London streets in the form of balconies, railings and grates. The brief from British designer Paul Smith was an eclectic collection of references from military medals and woven hats to finely drawn gold ingots and sharp tailoring. Reflecting the building's Georgian heritage, but employing a raw modern approach, 6a Architects applied panels with a relief repeat pattern of interlocking circles cast in solid iron. The rich, rhythmic approach continues on the first floor cast-iron balconies, but in pieced, open form, which gently blends with the brick above. The four curved windows stand proud of the front, echoing shop styles of the nineteenth century. Hidden in the façade is a Paul Smith drawing cast in the surface.

The countryside was rolling, the lanes were narrow and there was very little traffic about. I came to the next church without going through its village.
Open. Externally, this is a Norman church with a weather-boarded tower in the Essex fashion. But the porch is also weather boarded, and the church is rendered in apricot, and all in all the effect was of a child's model of a church, to which the parent might say that it looked a lot like a church without being quite right.
The outer doors were wedged open, and the inner south door was surrounded by a terrific Norman doorway, the best one I've seen in Essex so far. It would not be out of place in south-east Norfolk.
You step into a delightfully rough and ready interior. 13th century faces look out from the wooden wall posts, and there is an intimate 17th century memorial, a couple looking at each other over the prayer desk, but so close in such a little church.
Again, Ernest Geldart was responsible for the restoration. I liked it all a great deal, and thought it another Essex Top 40 church.
The fiberglass and all of the padding is tough to remove, it must be pried apart with this metal tool after it's been cut.

I created this piece within my 'Messages' coursework in order to connote the stereotypes of women. I thought about the most clichéd female activity from the previous centuries and manipulated this into something surreal and shocking. The fact that the legs of a women are trapped down by the iron could suggest how women have been forced into these connotations through the years.
Wiki is a Cream/White Van Persian guy and is the cousin to Firefox. He was born September 11, 2004 and adopted November 28, 2004. He's got a gorgeous face, but he's so extreme that his septum is deviated. There's nothing short of an expensive surgery to help it, and it doesn't bother him - so we just listen to him snort constantly. He's a sweet little guy, though, so we don't usually mind too much.
Like so many pillars around Palmyra, those surrounding the Agora had brackets on, upon which were mounted statues of the civic notables. Although all cast down and long gone, archeologists have been able to learn much about the public life of the city from the remains of the inscriptions.
To make a lifelike cast of my head, I used plaster-coated gauze strips, first covering the front half of my head (except one eye and my nostrils), then wrapping plastic wrap over the back of that half, and making the second half of the mold on the back of my head.
After removing them from my head, they fit together perfectly, with a bit of additional plaster to join them into a single mold of my head. (Also close up the remaining eye and the nostril holes at that time.)
Then pour it full of gypsum cement and let it harden.
