The robin is one of the most familiar birds of the UK, regularly visiting gardens. Robins are also common in parks, scrub and woodland, making their presence known with a loud, territorial song. They sing from prominent perches right through the winter, when both males and females hold territories; indeed, they are fiercely territorial, driving off intruders and even fighting. During the breeding season, the female is allowed into the male's territory where she sets up a nest of dead leaves, moss and hair. Nests often crop up in the oddest of places, such as plant pots, old wellies and shelves, but Ivy and other shrubs are their natural choice. Robins have been associated with Christmas ever since Victorian times; Victorian postmen, who were known as 'Robin Red-breasts' because of their red waistcoats, are thought to be the inspiration for so many robins appearing on our Christmas cards. Whether it's the case or not, robins certainly make themselves known in winter with their loud, aggressive song!
I shot some of these for a "Cases" theme a while back but they never got posted. I figured I'd give them another try. For the Macro Mondays group, theme, "Stack". The stack measured approximately 1.25 inches tall. Just the morning sun for lighting.

An "on location" wrist shot of this vintage handwound Chinese military wrist watch: "Jixing" brand, made by the Jilin Watch Factory (吉林手表厂). In the left background the Tsim Sha Tsui Star Ferry terminal and in the distance the skyline of Hong Kong Island.
The "Jixing" (吉星) brand means roughly "Lucky Star". The 軍用 on the dial means "military use". These watches were issued during the China-Vietnam conflict in 1979 - and also in the "second phase" of this conflict in 1984.
Apart from the different case color this watch is same as the other Jixing watch shown here. And, even if these "Jixing" are certified military watches, one usually expects a more "tactical" look from such timepieces.

For Macro Mondays for 1/23 for tape. This is a fabric case for some reading glasses and to reinforce the edges, it is sewn with bias binding tape. Btb, this was not the picture I thought I’d take but it’s sort of dramatic— yes?… The size verification shot should be next in the photostream— this portion is about an inch and 5/8ths.

At 92, route des dunes - Manche - Normandy - France - Europe
Ces cabanes se dressent fièrement sur la crête des dunes de Gouville, bien alignées et aux toits multicolores. Elles représentent un lieu idéal pour les photographes et peintres locaux et sont aussi l'emblème de la station balnéaire de Gouville-su-Mer. Implantées par les premiers touristes il y a près d'un siècle, ces cabines étaient un petit lieu où les touristes qui logeaient à l'hôtel pouvaient se changer et manger un morceau. Les touristes y entreposaient des jeux de plage, des vêtements, des instruments de pêche et servaient d'abri en cas de mauvais temps. Durant la seconde guerre mondiale, bon nombre de cabines disparurent détruites par l'armée d'occupation. Dès la liberté retrouvée, les cabines refleurirent petit à petit sur la dune. Dans les années 80, plus de cent cabines étaient implantées dans la dune mais la loi littoral vint mettre fin à leur implantation.

These cabins stand proudly on the crest of the Gouville dunes, well aligned and with multicolored roofs. They represent an ideal place for local photographers and painters and are also the emblem of the seaside resort of Gouville-su-Mer. Set up by the first tourists almost a century ago, these cabins were a small place where tourists staying at the hotel could change clothes and grab a bite to eat. Tourists stored beach games, clothing, fishing instruments there and served as shelter in case of bad weather. During the Second World War, many cabins were destroyed by the occupying army. As soon as freedom was regained, the cabins began to flourish again little by little on the dune. In the 1980s, more than a hundred cabins were located in the dune but the coastal law put an end to their establishment.

Good afternoon everyone, thought i would have a terrible day today, it was raining when I left this morning, 6:20-a.m. and drove the first 66-miles and never took out the camera from it's case. Traveled to the Western Limits
of rural Hendry County and it was like paradise, blue skies, big puffy clouds and a warm breeze, from there it was all uphill and had a wonderful day photographically. Nice images today not quantity bu quality, Hawks, Falcons and many other species, I do really live in Paradise.

I'm really not sure what he's got in his talons, a food source for sure Ethan.
We see these birds so sporadically so when we do it's always a thrill, and very exciting.

Doug and his trusty camera were in the Tehachapi Mountains when he composed this spellbinding photograph of two eastbound trains. Southern Pacific 8953 East emerges from a side track, sanders fully engaged, as SP 8652 East waits on the main line at Rowan, California on Oct. 18, 1976.
As is often the case, timing is everything.
With D736 holding the main, CSX V765 crawls into the siding at South Newark past the modified doll arm dwarf that is another of those one-of-a-kind signals on the CSX Saginaw Sub.
