Carolyn took a picture of Clint's computer background on her phone. This was her phone's background for awhile. John's Adventures Desktop Background Switcher generates a new background every few minutes, using either our local picture store, Facebook photos by friends, or Facebook photos OF frioends. It's a great conversation starter if you're bored, and beats the hell out of most people's "one picture that rarely changes" desktop. And though you can't tell in this cameraphone picture, it's pretty crystal clear on our 52-inch HDTV.

BACKSTORY: Got up around 7:00AM, made it out driving by 8:02AM and went out until 10:59AM for a total of 3 hours. Spent $84.25 plus ~$2.54 gas for 31.3 miles of driving (31.2 mpg @ $2.53/G), for a total cost of $86.79. We drove to 17 yard sales, stopping at 11 (65%) of them. We made 44 purchases (55 items) for a total estimated value of $724.13, leading to a profit/savings of $639.88. So in essence, we multiplied our $84.25 investment by 8.6. (Also, if you think about it, the profit counts for even more when you consider that we have to earn $729.37 on the job, pre-tax, in order to take home the $639.88 in cash that we saved. How long does $639.88 of disposable income take to earn, vs the 3 hrs we spent here?). Anyway, this works out to a *post-tax* "wage" of $127.98/hr as a couple or $63.99/hr per person.

BACKSTORY: Finally pulled most of my remaining Transformers out of the attic. There's still some rejects in the attic (2nd gen/plasticier ones), and a lot of the ones I owned as a kid are definitely missing. I think at some point I got rid of some and kept the best ones. The Constructicons and 2nd Megatron were purchased at yard sales as an adult, not toys as a kid like most of them. Anyway, TwoBeans came over, we Transformed a bunch, he broke a tab one one that didn't mess it up too much, and I completely broke the chest of Megatron (Sad Megatron). The non-broken Megatron (Happy Megatron) has a bum leg and won't stand up well. The precision screwdriver set I bought let me temporarily fix it, but the fix only lasted for a minute or so. So even Happy Megatron has an awkard limp. This set was a major pain to Photoshop and tag!

Transition Progress at this point: 9 months HRT: Estrogen since 8/1 (9 months; 4 on injections [with no spiro]--26 so far), progesterone since 3/25/2018 (1 month). DHEA (10mg/d) to raise libido a bit (since 4/2018). 6X Biotin/day for fingernails (since 1/17--4mos). Full-time female since 9/15/2017 (7 months). Publicly out as trans since 10/11 (7 months). Legally female since 12/21 (5 months). One semester (8 sessions) of group speech therapy classes taken at GW Speech Clinic (since 2/22). Weight down to 145lbs (52 down from 197, but 10 up from my low of 135). Hair removal includes 39 electrolysis sessions [since 4/2017] totaling 29 hours; 31 laser hair removal sessions (since 9/2016: 54 area treatments: 17/16/14/13/9 mouth/goatee/face/neck/armpits, 7 legs/chest/ears, 6 Brazilian); and bi-weekly at-home IPL on arms since 6/17 (11 months). Have seen endo/primary therapist 6X, and 4 other therapists 13X--Started mood stabilizer Lamictal (4/13, 3 weeks ago). Latisse for eyelash lengthening since 4/17 (13mos). 2 dental implants, Zoom teeth whitening, pierced ears, dyed/layered hair (no haircuts for 3.25yrs--since 1/2015), hypertrophic scars on arms & chest removed. Facial Feminization Surgery consults continuing. Female wardrobe replacement up to over 850 items. Total transition expenditures now over $19,000 at this point.

It was a really good haul this week. A guy had sooooooo much comic book stuff that he was giving away for free because he didn't want to take it back inside.
We accidentally ended up at an estate sale for a dead friend. That was kind of dark.
We saw a yard setting up a bunch of chairs and we were wondering what that was about. Turns out, it's a Burner Peace Love & Ice Cream yearly party where they play music and have about 70 of their friends over. We didn't know the people there, but they knew of MakePeace Manor.
Spanker Drive is a funny name for a street.

BACKSTORY: COMMENTS/ANECDOTES: This was a great day for yardsaling! Multiple community yardsales, the Boy Scout flea market, a church rummage sale, this day had it all. We got a lot of stuff. 3 car-loads! A Russian Cyrillic typewriter. We actually made it through the entire route, surprisingly. We had talked about maybe skipping a section in the middle, but then we went ahead and continued on. Then later, we were like, "Damn, we should have skipped that stuff in the middle, but then we wouldn't have gotten the stripper pole." Trade-offs! Our two goals were met though: we were specifically looking for floor lamps and power strips. By the way, Trump voters price stuff ridiculously.
SUMMARY: Got up around 7:05AM, made it out driving from McDonald's by 7:48 and went out until 2:39PM for a total of 6 hours. Spent $164.24 plus ~$5.03 gas for 58.1 miles of driving (28.7 mpg @ $2.49/G), for a total cost of $169.27. We drove to 48 yard sales, stopping at 18 (38%) of them. We made 65 purchases (115 items not including the power blocks) for a total estimated value of $1,207.61, leading to a profit/savings of $1,038.34. So in essence, we multiplied our $169.27 investment by 6.13X. (Also, if you think about it, the profit counts for even more when you consider that we have to earn $1,183 on the job, pre-tax, in order to take home the $1,038.34 in cash that we saved. How long does $1,038 of disposable income take to earn, vs the 6 hrs we spent here?) Anyway, this works out to a *post-tax* "wage" of $173.06/hr as a couple or $86.53/hr per person.

BACKSTORY: I joke that this was "the whitest night of my life", as Carolyn & I really aren't into Christmas very much, and don't even go to family Christmas parties usually. (Just the real holiday.)
So imagine us at a brony party/concert, replete with paid admission, tons of food & *non-alcoholic* beverages, Christmas carol singing, and tons of bronies, everywhere? It was packed. We actually had a great time!!! It's not the type of thing we'd repeat a bunch, but the draw of seeing a voice actor for a cartoon we watch, in person, for most likely the first time in our life? That was something. Plus, it was a great meal of party food. We skipped dinner to maximize things. :)
And the house was a total rich-person's house, too. Some of the most ridiculous opulance I've ever seen, like at least 3 (of the 5 or so) refrigerators within 20 feet of each other. Don't get me started on the book collection that seemed sympathetic to the Confederacy, or the matriarch talking about how awesome George Bush is.
We are definitely out-of-place people, wherever we go. Including Brony Meetups...

BACKSTORY: Finally pulled most of my remaining Transformers out of the attic. There's still some rejects in the attic (2nd gen/plasticier ones), and a lot of the ones I owned as a kid are definitely missing. I think at some point I got rid of some and kept the best ones. The Constructicons and 2nd Megatron were purchased at yard sales as an adult, not toys as a kid like most of them. Anyway, TwoBeans came over, we Transformed a bunch, he broke a tab one one that didn't mess it up too much, and I completely broke the chest of Megatron (Sad Megatron). The non-broken Megatron (Happy Megatron) has a bum leg and won't stand up well. The precision screwdriver set I bought let me temporarily fix it, but the fix only lasted for a minute or so. So even Happy Megatron has an awkard limp. This set was a major pain to Photoshop and tag!

A Paw Patrol Pop-Up on Thursday drew a large crowd of parents and diapered fans. A woofstock for 1-year olds, it caused a HUGE traffic jam for strollers on Front Street just west of the Globe and Mail building!
Never heard of PP? PAW Patrol is a Canadian animated television series that was created by Keith Chapman. The series first aired on Nickelodeon in the United States August 2013 and in Canada on TVOKids on September 2, 2013. Although it is considered a Nick Jr. show, the show is broadcast in both countries on Nickelodeon and TVOKids. The show is produced by Spin Master Entertainment (Front Street, Toronto - where this morning's pop-up was staged) in association with the two broadcasters, with the show's animation being produced around the corner by Guru Studio on Spadina Avenue in Toronto. It was recently announced that PAW Patrol had been renewed for a third season, which is slated to begin airing later this year.
An interesting yard sale take this week: It organizes pretty well for photographs. Less of a pain than usual. Too bad the fire extinguisher was dead.

BACKSTORY: Got up around 8:25AM, made it out driving by 9:00AM and went out until 1:11PM for a total of 4 hours, 11 minutes. Spent $30.50 plus ~$9.79 gas for 43.3 miles of driving (16.5 mpg @ $3.73/G), for a total cost of $40.29. We drove to 43 yard sales, stopping at 26 (60%) of them. We made 18 purchases (23 items) for a total estimated value of $187.35, leading to a profit/savings of $147.06. So in essence, we multiplied our $40.29 investment by 4.65X.
(Also, if you think about it, the profit counts for even more when you consider that we have to earn $~167 on the job, pre-tax, in order to take home the $187 in cash that we saved. How long does $187 of disposable income take to earn, vs the 4.183 hrs we spent here?)
Anyway, this works out to a *post-tax* "wage" of $35.15/hr as a couple or $17.58/hr per person. Kinda shabby compared to usual numbers.

BACKSTORY: COMMENTS/ANECDOTES: This was a great day for yardsaling! Multiple community yardsales, the Boy Scout flea market, a church rummage sale, this day had it all. We got a lot of stuff. 3 car-loads! A Russian Cyrillic typewriter. We actually made it through the entire route, surprisingly. We had talked about maybe skipping a section in the middle, but then we went ahead and continued on. Then later, we were like, "Damn, we should have skipped that stuff in the middle, but then we wouldn't have gotten the stripper pole." Trade-offs! Our two goals were met though: we were specifically looking for floor lamps and power strips. By the way, Trump voters price stuff ridiculously.
SUMMARY: Got up around 7:05AM, made it out driving from McDonald's by 7:48 and went out until 2:39PM for a total of 6 hours. Spent $164.24 plus ~$5.03 gas for 58.1 miles of driving (28.7 mpg @ $2.49/G), for a total cost of $169.27. We drove to 48 yard sales, stopping at 18 (38%) of them. We made 65 purchases (115 items not including the power blocks) for a total estimated value of $1,207.61, leading to a profit/savings of $1,038.34. So in essence, we multiplied our $169.27 investment by 6.13X. (Also, if you think about it, the profit counts for even more when you consider that we have to earn $1,183 on the job, pre-tax, in order to take home the $1,038.34 in cash that we saved. How long does $1,038 of disposable income take to earn, vs the 6 hrs we spent here?) Anyway, this works out to a *post-tax* "wage" of $173.06/hr as a couple or $86.53/hr per person.

BACKSTORY: We went to BronyCon this year! Over 8,000 people showed up. BACKSTORY: I joke that this was "the whitest night of my life", as Carolyn & I really aren't into Christmas very much, and don't even go to family Christmas parties usually. (Just the real holiday.)
So imagine us at a brony party/concert, replete with paid admission, tons of food & *non-alcoholic* beverages, Christmas carol singing, and tons of bronies, everywhere? It was packed. We actually had a great time!!! It's not the type of thing we'd repeat a bunch, but the draw of seeing a voice actor for a cartoon we watch, in person, for most likely the first time in our life? That was something. Plus, it was a great meal of party food. We skipped dinner to maximize things. :)
And the house was a total rich-person's house, too. Some of the most ridiculous opulance I've ever seen, like at least 3 (of the 5 or so) refrigerators within 20 feet of each other. Don't get me started on the book collection that seemed sympathetic to the Confederacy, or the matriarch talking about how awesome George Bush is.
We are definitely out-of-place people, wherever we go. Including Brony Meetups...

Some people will slap "pony" on anything and market.
For example: All the terrible instrumental electronic music that has nothing to do with My Little Pony other than some stupid interprative title related to the show. Along the lines of "My Bad Techno Is Relevant Because I Jerked Off To Rainbow Dash While Thinking Of It". It is the worst.
