A carousel: from French carrousel and Italian carosello), roundabout (British English), or merry-go-round, is an amusement ride consisting of a rotating circular platform with seats for riders. The "seats" are traditionally in the form of rows of wooden horses or other animals mounted on posts, many of which are moved up and down by gears to simulate galloping, to the accompaniment of looped circus music. This leads to one of the alternative American names, the galloper.

There's something sad about Carousel ponies when there are no children sitting on them . . . These Carousel ponies were taken at the Balboa Fun Zone in Newport Beach, CA.
... does anything make you feel like a child as instantly as just a glance at a carousel? This one is located in Central Park. It was crowded at the entrance, so I just had to work my way into a spot where I could capture a few pictures. I like being able to see a portion of the inside of the building that houses the carousel.
On thin golden poles /
gliding up, sliding down, /

I swear I didn't do anything, I was just standing there, minding my own business. None of them escaped and no damage was done.
A ride on Sullivan's V117MEV was rejected when this came round the corner! Have to do winners first.... Carousels immaculate former Oxford 102 is seen at Rickmansworth with the 1840 X336 from Watford to High Wycombe, the bright green interior not contrasting too badly with it's new livery (and retrim), it was much tidier than it's Thames Travel sisters that I had earlier this year.
I love seeing, and photographing, carousels but, oddly enough, I hate riding them. I really wish that I could enjoy a ride on one of these noble steeds but I usually don't do very well on spinning rides, even if it's something as tame as this. The faster it spins, the worse my reaction will be. Sadly, carousels are going to remain something that I'll have to admire from afar.
