Herschell-Spillman Carousel, Balboa Park, San Diego, California. Built originally in 1910 for Luna Park in Los Angeles. It has a menagerie of hand carved wooden animals, all original, except for two small ponies, the original hand-painted murals surrounding the upper portion of the carousel, and the original military band music. Thanks to my friends at Jessop Amusements for their help in taking these photos of some of their wonderful rides, etc.
By the mid-19th century the platform carousel was developed where the animals and chariots would travel around in a circle sitting on a suspended circular floor which was hanging from the centre pole. The first known recorded steam-powered carousel was created by Thomas Hurst and shown at Bolton (Lancashire, England) New Year Fair in 1861.
This kiddie ride is a really odd sort of carousel. It has both vehicles and animals attached to a spinning platform, with a traffic light in the center and a figure posed as though directing traffic.
For many years Arriva The Shires Route 62 and Carousel Buses 'Line 4' have competed over the Chesham - Amersham - High Wycombe corridor. Recently however there has been an outbreak of common sense, and both operators have agreed to co-ordinate their timetables and publicity and to accept each other's return tickets.
The renumbered route, branded 'The One', commenced on 14th April. A number of buses in both fleets have now gained 'The One' branding - naturally Carousel is know as 'Red One' and Arriva as 'Blue One'!
This rear view of Optare Tempo 801 at Chesham Broadway during the afternoon of Friday 19th April shows the branding as applied to Carousel Buses. The bus is about to set off for the last leg of its journey to White Hill; Arriva's 'Blue Ones' operate instead to Pond Park Estate.
Built in 1917, the Carousel is the 44th of its kind built by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company. In 1974, the Carousel was purchased from Roger Williams Amusement Park in Rhode Island.

One test shot and a Leeds Council representative escorted me out of Leeds Millennium Square for not having a "permit".
Stopped by several police and security officers whilst taking photos in public areas during the daytime. Glad they're out catching the real criminals!
One of our local furniture stores has a
carousel inside the Children's Dept.
It's called the "Caring Carousel".
For a small donation, you can have
a long ride and enjoy the organ band

charities, such as Make-A-Wish
Foundation, Ronald McDonald House,
