I thought, "Oh what the heck?" and used a tripod and pretended I cared on this one. I was hoping to photograph the exhaust flares of an alien spaceship, but no such luck.

The New York City Department of Transportation, New York Cares and the Mayor's Community Affairs Unit organized two Barrier Beautification painting events in conjunction with NY Cares Service Day on Saturday, April 20, 2013. The Urban Art Program is collaborating for the first time with international artists as part of the Barrier Beautification program. Having traveled all the way from Berlin, artists Oyvind Renberg and Miho Shimizu joined forty-one NY Cares volunteers to beautify 400 feet of concrete barriers along the FDR Drive Service Road East between 25th and 27th Streets in Manhattan.
The narrative design "Damsgård" depicts an 18th century Norwegian manor duck migrating along a fjord landscape. The title of the design refers to the residential area of Bergen, Norway that is known for beautiful mountain views and the rococo Damsgård manor house.

“I studied to become a primary school teacher. I didn’t have the best experience in my training year. I became disillusioned with the whole profession. It wasn’t the same as when I started - everything became results based and I wanted the kids to be the focus. The kids were just trained to the test. There was no free thinking. Education should be about opening the mind, trying new things and not being afraid to fail. So I took a break from it.
At the same time, my nan was suffering from cancer. I had to prioritise what I wanted; to look after her or continue the teaching. I knew I hadn’t got long left with her, she had to be the priority. I became a carer for her. Although it was a dismal period of her life, I wouldn’t have wanted to miss being with her and seeing her. I lost my mum when I was four to cancer. My nan brought me up, so I couldn’t leave her to deal with it on her own. Especially when it had affected me so personally previously. It made me feel that I was giving back to her everything that she’d given me all this time. It felt right.”

The Ruta del Cares is located in the Picos de Europa National Park. It runs between the towns of Cain (León) and Poncebos (Asturias), crossing the gorge that follows the river on one of the most spectacular hiking trails that can be done in all of Europe.
12 kilometers (24 round trip) of a path sandwiched between the mountain and the cliff.
In the old times this route was the path, or rather the “goat path”, which communicated the towns of Cain and Poncebos, being the only way through in the snowy season. At first the trail was complicated and sometimes completely disappeared.
Between 1945 and 1950, the path was remodeled to improve the channels for the hydroelectric use of the Cares river, and to facilitate the arrival of workers at the Poncebos hydroelectric plant.
The path that was excavated among the rocks of the mountains, in a very steep place with inclement weather.
