I have seen many of them outside Manitoba, but it was, nonetheless, fun to see my first in-province Cardinal, especially in one of my old haunts. They used to be rare in Manitoba, but uncommon better describes their prevalence in 2021.

Yay! The Cardinals are back at my feeder. Not sure where they went all winter but was very excited to see them back.

Love when a Cardinal lands on a snowy branch! It's not like they can hide very well.

If you notice, there is some gray in feathers these will turn red and are just remains from its molting phase.

Cardinals, in the family Cardinalidae, are passerine birds found in North and South America. They are also known as cardinal-grosbeaks and cardinal-buntings. The South American cardinals in the genus Paroaria are placed in the tanager family Thraupidae.

Thanks to its distinctive red color and prominent crest, the male Northern Cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis) is easily one of North America's most recognizable songbirds. Thanks to Jai Johnson for the texture.

Took this picyure through a window so as not to spook the bird by going out.

It is also an introduced species in a few locations such as Bermuda and Hawaii. Its habitat includes woodlands, gardens, shrublands, and wetlands.

He is back! Ready for winter time :)

This cardinal was resting in my back yard.

Cardinals, in the family Cardinalidae (cardinalis cardinalis), are passerine birds found in North and South America. They are also known as cardinal-grosbeaks and cardinal-buntings.

One of our most popular birds, the Cardinal is the official state bird of no fewer than seven eastern states. Abundant in the Southeast, it has been extending its range northward for decades, and it now brightens winter days with its color and its whistled song as far north as southeastern Canada. Feeders stocked with sunflower seeds may have aided its northward spread. West of the Great Plains, the Cardinal is mostly absent, but it is locally common in the desert Southwest.
