I did not have a 3/8" ratchet but the bits were 3/8" drive, so I had to use an adapter for the 1/2" ratchet and an extension. It was very cumbersome, as there wasn't enough space to wield the larger wrench. I bought a 3/8" drive ratchet befor eI put the plate back in.
That nut is extremely difficult to get to with the subframe in place. Luckily, the bolt did not turn in place when I unscrewed the nut.

Works well, safer than jacking and axle stands.

It's one of the last of the old school Volvo with the headlamps (and tail lamps) on all the time regardless. The odd bit the US style amber corner markers on the front, still it must meet UK/EU spec.
The next facelift of the XC70 saw the introduction of specific Daytime Running Lights (DRLs).
Our 2011 Volvo XC70 is now at 138,830 miles (bought in 2016 at 88k).
I used a $2 scraper that came with 3 blades. Make sure you have more than one blade; the first blade broke before I finished the job.
Most of what was left of the gasket was a glassy, hard, thin and brittle substance that adhered to the engine block surface.
Preparation is the key. I haven't changed the oil for a long as I can remember, I've paid somebody to do the annual servcing. This year, and probably from now onwards, I have decided to do it myself. Luckily I already had most of the equipment.
