The doors are locked by electricity, and the battery is inside the car behind the back seats. So if it dies, you'd have a hard time getting into the car!
The engine is an Oldsmobile Rocket V8 from 1955 as is the transmission.
This is a cool little car which I've been lucky enough to have been loaned several times by friends of mine, and I've used it when travelling to see my parents in Reading. Particularly helpful on weekends like this latest one, when there's been a train strike.
I've always liked this slightly quirky design and particularly am a fan of the purple colour ...

Leather seats are from a '62 T-Bird, although the front-to-back leather mid-section is likely custom made.

Rather Batmobile-ish design, wouldn't you say?

Ever seen an accelerator in the shape of a foot before? Bonaguro must have had a sense of humour!
A colourful brochure showing the approved accessories available for the 1955 range of Vauxhall family saloons - the Wyvern, Velox and Cresta cars. The three models were largely based on the same body, in line with parent coampny GM's policy at the time, with the Wyvern as the 4-cylinder version, the Velox the 6-cylinder and the Cresta as the higher specification version of the Velox. This accessories booklet seems to cover the various 'facelift' versions that had been introduced up to and including the 1955 style changes to the Cresta.
One of the most interesting things to note is that amongst all the items that you could consider 'embellishments,' such as sunvisors or chromium plated exhaust deflectors, are the numerous things that were considered extras that would become standard equipment such as heaters or screencleaners.
"The companionable Vauxhall radio" showing that even the aerial was an 'extra"! The gloved hand shows the brochure's attempt to denote the 'high status' motorist the company aspired to.
Was the Batmobile inspired by this 1957 Bonaguro custom car shown at the May 2015 Rally in the [Fraser] Valley, Abbotsford, BC?
This incredible 50's custom is the result of years of work by John Bonaguro of Michigan. This is a completely hand-crafted automobile that was constructed over the period of 1957-1963. The suspension is 50's Studebaker; the engine is an Oldsmobile Rocket V8 from 1955 as is the transmission. The other parts identified are 1958 Chevy taillight lenses, the windshield and cowl are 1959 Dodge and the seats are 1962 T-Bird. Everything else on this incredible automobile is hand fabricated. The body on the car is fiberglass. The bumpers are polished aluminum. The interior is leather.
Many changes under the skin too! Not to mention the way it opens up has also changed. The doors now open normally, as does the front hatch.
A very successful selling car for Ford company. About 1.9 million units of Ford Capri sold between 1968 and 1986.

This is where it'll be easiest to point out the tweaks that have been made
-The whole model has been raised by a plate, and the wheel-wells lowered to make the wings thicker. The original model was wayy too low and the wheels cut too much into the body, making it looks awkward.
-The whole nose as been tilted forward by a few degrees, and has had the general shaping brushed up.
-The rear is now a stud wider than the front. Once again, all of the rear end has been reworked, and the diffuser completely resigned.
