It was a competition of some sort for young girls at the Fair. I was in the back of the room, and there was no way to get enough DOF to get both the phone and the stage in focus. But by taking two photos--first the phone, then the stage, in focus--I was then able to composite them into a single story telling image. I should have taken a third shot, since there is blur visible in the audience between the phone and the stage. Oh well, next time...

It was very dusty from high winds this morning in Canyonlands and Arches National Parks. I went to shoot Mesa arch but changed my mind when I saw all of the dust limiting detail in the distance. These conditions were great however for capturing silhouettes of the distant plateaus and ridges in the parks.
Here I am leaving "Island in the Sky" looking east toward Arches. The structures of the Windows district in Arches National Park can be seen in one of the middle silhouettes.

When I heard a 70 approaching Mill Lane Junction, Northampton, I was almost excited. However, when the train came into view, I was utterly disappointed, as it was virtually empty. I would usually refuse to take a photograph of such a train, leaving them instead for John Tomlinson, but as I had been starved of railway shots of late, tried something a little different.

This was shot with the Edixa with the lens on which the ring with the M42 thread had become loose. I had hoped that stopping down would cover up any resulting focusing error and I still think it should have, so I don't know what went wrong here, but I still think the colour rendering is nice. It captures the sunny winter afternoon mood better than the black and white shots with the Varex did, though those are arguably more dramatic.

This image of the black rhino was captured as he came down to the water whole just as the sun was beginning to go down. We were so thrilled that he came when he did because there was just enough sun to get a few images and then it was gone. Such awesome creatures and to know they were endangered we felt fortunate to have seen them and so close.
police chased a black expedition after reports came in that the driver had assulted and then threatened someone with a firearm. the chase ended when the fleeing expedition crashed into a utility truck. the driver was handcuffed after he was pulled from the firey expedition. the driver of the utility truck he hit was taken to an area hospital.

Este paraje, situado a medio camino entre las localidades de Bakio y Bermeo, tiene algo que atrapa.
La escarpada y larga escalera que une la isla con tierra es todo un reto, existen diferentes versiones sobre su número real de escalones, pero todo el mundo está de acuerdo en que el ascenso merece la pena.
Al final de la escalinata podrás posar tu pie sobre la huella que según dicen dejó allí San Juan Bautista, trae buena suerte. En lo alto te espera una pintoresca ermita y sobre todo unas espectaculares vistas al bravo mar Cantábrico que ha tallado en la isla, acantilados, túneles y arcos imposibles.
Gaztelugatxe ha sido escenario de piratas, aquelarres y leyendas y no es casualidad que acumule títulos de “maravilla más votada” o enclave “más valorado” por viajeros de todo el mundo.
El rito de tocar la campana tres veces
Una vez arriba no olvides tocar la campana de la ermita tres veces y pedir un deseo, antiguamente lo hacían para pedir fertilidad y ahuyentar malos espíritus o dolores de cabeza. La campana está tan a mano que tocarla es una actividad que engancha a mayores y pequeños.
Recuerda llevar ropa y calzado cómodo. En otoño o primavera la isla estará tranquila y podrás saborear mejor su misticismo y belleza. En verano no te resistirás a un baño en las pequeñas playas de piedras que se forman al pie de la escalinata. Gaztelugatxe es una maravilla natural a la que sin duda querrás volver.

While walking the Lady Bird Johnson Grove Trail with a view looking up and to the north at nearby coast redwoods in Redwood National Park. While I couldn't capture the entire height of these two nearby redwoods, from base to tree crown, I attempted to capture as much as I could. The idea being that the tree crowns with the skies above would be the focus. The tree itself though would be a leading line looking up into the image. I did though get close enough to the trees so that one could the details in the bark as part of the image captured.
Freightliner Shed 66528 with the 10.08 Lawley Street to Felixstowe North as it approaches Melton Mowbray station which still has many interesting features, shame there weren't more trains during my visit
