The Macro Monday theme for 1/30 is screw. This choice fits the three parameters of the theme for MM. It also has garnered the most views and faves. I like the other three for totally different reasons, so I think I’ll dither for a bit before choosing.

The male Red-capped Robin is black above and white below with a distinctive scarlet-red cap, white shoulders, and a red breast that contrasts strongly with a black throat. The black wing is barred white and the tail is black with white edges. Females are quite different in appearance: grey-brown above and off-white below, with a reddish cap, brown-black wings barred buff to white, and some have faint red on the breast.

Next to the Vauban Tower on the left dating from 1695, considered the oldest lighthouse in France, the modern Cap Fréhel lighthouse is still in service. Measuring 33 meters in height, it was built in 1950 following the destruction of the previous lighthouse by the Germans in 1944. Its range in clear weather is 110 kilometers.

Black-Capped Chickadee.
Between 4 3/4 to 5 3/4 inches long. Black cap and throat, white cheesk, gray back and dull white underparts. Wing feathers narrowly and indistinctly edged with white.
They can be found in deciduous and mixed forests, and open woodlands and suburban areas in winter.
They range from Alaska east across Canada to Newfoundland, and south to northern California, northern New Mexico, Missouri and northern New jersy. Winters south to Maryland and Texas.
