Chelsea has been dealing with a bad case of cradle cap (seborrhoeic dermatitis). This has been going on for a few weeks now. I try to scrub/brush/wash it every day but it keeps coming back. In the picture, it actually looks better than it has. I'm hoping that that means its starting to go away. In addition to cradle cap, she has eczema all over her arms, legs and belly. So, she's crusty all over! Argh... looking forward to her having soft skin again.

100% alpaca, reclaimed from a decidedly late eighties/early nineties banana republic sweater, MCC van. i wanted to keep the sweater (mmmm...soft and warm), but it was a size medium and HUGE-this from a girl who can often get away with wearing larges. it went past my hands and was almost a dress. the yarn is lush, soft and hard to knit with. i don't mind that it is a bit bumpy and wasn't really going to force myself to try to make it unbumpy. maybe some blocking. anyhow...
this hat was an experiment. all asymmetrical hats are experiments. i wanted to do a roll brim, with part of it remaining unrolled. i was sort of inspired by vintage hats that i've seen and their wild asymmetry. mine is more mild for sure. i thought at first that this would be worn with the non rolled part slightly off center, but it looked best on me centered. the shape ended up nice. i like both the brim and the shape of the top, but i didn't keep the eyelets as long as i wanted. decreases are so difficult when it comes to asymmetry. now that i know that i would want to wear the eyelet part in the front, i'll maybe try another, decreasing the eyelet part slower than the rest of the hat. that will definitly move center of the top further back, but i don't know what else it will do. the mostly rolled brim is certainly a keeper.

Liberty Cap is an extinct 37 foot high travertine (limestone) thermal cone that stands alone near the bottom of the terraces of Mammoth Hot Springs in Yellowstone National Park. It's an entertainingly startling, and iconic, sight out there all by itself. Named for its resemblance to the shape of hats worn during the French revolution, it's also been known by various names referencing its similarity to a certain feature of male anatomy.
Note the bison trails in the snow below and around it.
