We were so excited to get the chance to do another Dodgers Baseball Cake for a customer. This one came out so much better than our first one.
Today I found out that my friend Robin passed away late last week in Las Vegas. Rob was a fellow radio DJ at KGNU. He hosted a show called Cap'n Rob's Fillet of Soul and Waffles.
He was quite a character and we connected right away because like me, he was also a nerd and a graphic designer. For several years his show was right before ours. We spent many hours at the KGNU studio smoking and talking about movies, music, sci-fi, comic books, printing and his coveted Laser Disc collection. He also talked of his family often and obviously loved them more than anything else in life.
He once owned a screen printing shop in Boulder and I would help him from time to time by doing color separations and giving him film to make silk screens with. At one time I had a stack of t-shirts that he had designed and printed. We still have several coffee mugs he designed sitting in our kitchen cabinet.
Recently he moved to Las Vegas for work and Facebook was our only form of contact. When me and Robyn were out there in September to get married, we got in touch with Rob to hang out. We had a fantastic lunch and went to see the Andy Warhol art exhibit together at the Bellagio. He told us all about his life in Vegas and his job doing pre-press for a company that made plastic key-cards and gift cards for many major retailers and casinos. I'm so glad we were able to hang out together and catch up on each other's lives. I never imagined that it would be the last time we would see each other.
Robin was a great man. He was witty, kind, smart, and talented. He also knew how to throw down the funk! If only there were more people like him...the world would be a better place.
Farewell Cap'n Rob…you will be missed. see you on the other side!

I had the Aussie CNC guys make me a small batch of crank arm dust caps in brass.
I will offer these for cranks I modify, and can be spot milled, fluted, drilled. Or left smooth.
Highly polished or matte finish.
They were made to old Campagnolo Record spec and use a 5mm allen key.

Cape Yellow owes its name to the remarkable color of the hyaloclastites which constitute its cliff of about fifty meters high, which therefore turns yellow and contrasts with the dark hues of the other surrounding volcanic formations, which makes it a curiosity of the Reunion geology. Hyaloclastites are volcanic rocks resulting from the explosive cooling of a lava in contact with water and then from the consolidation of the fragments. They form when volcanic eruptions occur underwater at shallow depths or when lava flows pour into the sea. Fragmentation occurs by the force of the volcanic explosion or by thermal shock. They are porous and tender rocks belonging to the category of tuffs.
