For shaping of the landscape Cappadocia, the primary influence was the activity of two volcanoes; Hasan Dagi on the west and Erciyes Dagi on the east. Sediment and erosion of the soft and hard volcanic rocks led to the emergence very interesting forms. The whole area, known as the Goreme National Park and Cappadocia rock monuments, was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1985.

A view from the hot air balloon. The flight itself was incredible and unforgettable as we took in sprawling views such as this from up high.

Happy Saturday, dear Flickr buddies. I pray you are all keeping well and safe.

Paşabağları in Cappadocia, Turkey is a place where the formation and development of fairy chimneys can be observed best. It is quite enjoyable to walk between the fairy chimneys here. The Fairy Chimneys are truly a delight. Full of history that you can walk through and touch, they take you back in time thousands of years as you walk, sit and explore where people from past civilizations lived, ate and went about their lives.

An amazing site to visit. According to Wikipedia, Cappadocia lies in eastern Anatolia, in the heartland of what is now Turkey. The relief consists of a high plateau over 1000 m in altitude that is pierced by volcanic peaks, with Mount Erciyes (ancient Argaeus) near Kayseri (ancient Caesarea) being the tallest at 3916 m. The boundaries of historical Cappadocia are vague, particularly towards the west. To the south, the Taurus Mountains form the boundary with Cilicia and separate Cappadocia from the Mediterranean Sea. To the west, Cappadocia is bounded by the historical regions of Lycaonia to the southwest, and Galatia to the northwest. Due to its inland location and high altitude, Cappadocia has a markedly continental climate, with hot dry summers and cold snowy winters.

The sunrise in Cappadocia bathes everything in enchanting orange hues, painting a breathtaking spectacle.

Here another photograph from my balloon ride in Cappadocia, Turkey - this time you can see more details of the rock formations and a few other balloons below. I have tried to count the number of balloons in the air and came to more than 50...unbelievable...
