During my Hong Kong trip I went to one of the Wifey's BFF wedding. If you ever been to a traditional Chinese wedding from start to finish it's LONG! I was asked to shoot a part of their wedding when the actual wedding photographer would not be there. I had no idea what they wanted me to do and to be quite honest I didn't even want to do it. The anxiety came when I found out they wanted me to pose them. My brain just went blank for a bit. If they asked me to do a photojournalism style shooting I would feel somwhat comfortable, but I never had to pose anyone before, let alone a couple on their wedding day.
I ended up shooting sporadically throughout the day and did a handful of poses with them. I had a few 'uncle bob' moments at the reception, but all were candids and never once got in the real photographers way. On the other hand there was more than a few 'uncle bob's' that were literally side by side next to the wedding photographer and getting in his way. I just don't get that...
At the end of the day I ended up taking more photos then I thought and I did learn something out of it, especially watching the wedding photographers interaction throughout the day. I was actually asked by some friends to shoot their wedding around September of 2013. Although a little scary I'm definitely up for the challenge as long as we agree with expectations and what style I will likely be going for. Hopefully between now and then I can get more prace and improve my skills. An upgrade in gear would be nice too :)
