Sooo, remember this photo? Well...
I had my head shaved today. All of these wonderful people I know were the ones who donated $1,500 for children's cancer research! I'm so ecstatic! So yeah, I finally did it. I'm bald. I love it. Thank you sooo much to everyone who donated or simply shared my links about it. You all are beautiful souls.

Alkalize!!
~food for thought ~ can cancer be prevented and cured by consuming a diet with less acid and more alkaline? Cancer cells lie dormant in a ph of 7.4 but as the body gets alkalized higher and the ph level reaches 8.4 these malignant cells die off. So the answer to cancer lies in an extremely alkaline diet. With the right consumption leading to a high alkaline body ph the cancer cells cannot live in that environment and die off.

This is my fifth year supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month (October) and yet, this is my most hopeful year so far. I have so much exciting news to share with all of you. I want to thank all of the incredibly generous Flickr community who have supported me in this important cause....and I offer my love and support to all those inflicted with this horrific disease....it is for you that I do this.
The United States number one hospital for cancer care, the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, with its unparalleled resources and capabilities, is uniquely positioned to accelerate the end of cancer. It’s closer than you think. What’s learned from these initial cancer “moon shots” will ultimately lead to cures for all types of the disease.
Its not just the USA involved, but all countries are embarking on sharing their technologies and resources to end this deadly disease. And its not just breast cancer, but all cancers are being targeted to be eradicated, which brings such great hope to all of us.

This the end of my BCA campaign for 2012. My wish this year was to provide hope and information to empower those with cancer to research what is available to them in terms of treatments and not to blindly accept the current
traditional therapies of surgery, radiation and chemotherapy. Not to say that those treatments are not any good or helpful for certain people ~ but to say there are other options out there. Bless you ~ I love you all.....

This is a scanned image of a self portrait done by my friend Heidi. Not only is Heidi a brillant photographer, she is also a very gifted writer. Some of you may recall when I posted the photo below "Prayers for Heidi". The day it was posted Heidi had undergone surgery to remove one of her breasts due to cancer. Her recovery from that surgery was amazingly fast which she attributes to the many thoughts and prayers on her behalf. Since her surgery, Heidi has been committed to getting the message out to other women about the importance of yearly screening and early detection.
I have such admiration for the determination Heidi has shown in confronting cancer and keeping those of us around her informed. Heidi learned this past week that due to
"suspcious cells" they would be moving forward with a bilateral mastectomy. Heidi's spirits are again high as she prepares to go through yet another surgery. And again, I ask for your prayers and thoughts for Heidi as well as for the others that are dealing with cancer.
Heidi has started a blog to share her journey at www.heidiupdate.blogspot.com/
This is probably the most important upload for my entire 2012 Awareness Campaign. The following documentary film, written and directed by Massimo Mazzucco, is crucial for all of us to watch. I will warn you that it is long, yet fascinating ~ about an hour and a half. But I guarantee you this ~ it will be the most beneficial hour and a half you will have ever spent! After all, 3 of everyone of us will develop cancer in our lifetimes and I want each one of us to understand that there are alternatives to surgery, radiation and chemotherapy. This is very dear to my heart because my dad suffered through the devastating effects of chemotherapy for 3 months before he lost his battle. I only wish I had known about these alternatives at the time because I would have done anything to save him. I miss him more than is imaginable.

This prompt is great quote from Chuang Tzu, the Chinese philosopher two thousand years ago, and is still relevant today for people living with a cancer diagnosis. For most people, life after cancer is never really the same as before.

I had the pleasure of capturing these little fellas and the antics they got up too was so mesmerising, I couldn't take my eyes of them.
In pictures, anything can happen. A British agent can save the world, dinosaurs can come to life and in a Galaxy Far, Far Away a heavy breathing bad guy wearing a black suit of armor can turn good just when you need him. Miracles can happen fast and furious. .
In real life though, we have to fight, claw and argue our way through a hell we never knew existed and hope for the best in the end. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But there is always that one time in your entire life that you get to have The Greatest. Just one, no more. I got mine.

So to my husband who I was told twice last April would not survive through the weekend and had every curveball thrown at him, who was told by one of his doctors who never gave up that he had the largest of its kind they'd ever had seen, I say to you I love you and congratulations on becoming cancer free against every odd thrown at you. .

Seen at the entrance to the Mercy Health Perrsyburg Cancer Center. From a description of the display:
"The graceful and colorful birds soar above the Welcome Center to remind all that within these walls is hope, faith and a sincere expression of the concept of 'strength in numbers.' While each cancer journey is truly an individual experience, these beautiful birds proclaim that it need never be a lonely voyage."
"The glass birds were hand-fired in the cancer awareness colors, each representing a different type of cancer."
The display was created by Matthew Paskiet, who is with Firenation Glass Studio and Gallery. The display is a tribute to Andrew Merrels, supported by a donation from his wife Karen Merrels.

I've been posting dark shots, lately. Let's pick it up a bit!
This is from a recent client-shoot: Shannon Gerard, Toronto's most delightful comic and book artist (in my humble opinion) had an installation at CanZine to promote her most recent project, called 'B00bs and Dinks."
I hope this doesn't offend anyone, but it's a wonderful and inspiring project: Shannon crochets little… well, bodyparts… and puts a little lump in them, and has also developed artists books that accompany these crocheted items. The books teach in plain and even fun, natural, casual and silly language, how to examine these parts in order to find the lump. It's a difficult project to describe, but very positive and preventative. it instructs, but it doesn't feel 'educational' in the annoying way that typical leaflets would.
I'm proud to have been involved in the project, even just in this post-development sort of a way!
For more information about the project, visit www.shannongerard.org!
The power of prayer and positive thinking has made itself abundantly clear to me in this past several months. Some of you may recall my friend Heidi who recently underwent surgery to remove part of one breast after a lump was discovered to be cancerous. I asked my flickr friends for prayers for Heidi and was overwhelmed by the response. Heidi's doctor was impressed by how quickly she healed. Heidi wasn't surprised a bit. After reading all the words of encouragement and thoughts of prayer she knew exactly where the strength of her recovery came from.
Heidi will once again be going into surgery this week. Since her first surgery the doctor found "suspcious cells" and they will be performing a bilateral mastectomy. Heidi is a woman of inspirational spirit and has dedicated herself to helping get the word out to other women about early detection.
Any thoughts or prayers you can send in Heidi's direction will be well received. When Heidi is feeling up to it she wil be reading through the comments. I know she will gain much strength in healing from the power of your sunshine.
