This was taken at the 2017 Portland Dragon Boat Races. There are several teams of people who have survived cancer. These race and when they return to shore they are received with flowers and paddles held high in an arch.

PRETTY BALD IN PINK Photo Campaign is a charity project aimed to promote knowledge and support for cancer victims, families and everyone affected by this disease. Like last year, the idea is not to raise money, but to raise conscience and awareness about a subject that concern us all, to some more direct than to others.

Our kitty Joshua has been diagnosed with aggressive cancer which, if left untreated, will result in his death in less than a month. He's at the internist's right now getting an ultrasound and biopsy that will tell us if it's lymphoma or carcinoma, as they are treated differently -- either surgery or chemotherapy. In either case the vet seems to think the cancer will metastasize so all we'd be doing is just buying him a bit of extra time -- 6 months to a year.

We leave for a week-long vacation tomorrow morning and have to board Joshua for the first time ever since he's now taking medication twice a day for hyperthyroidism, so we can't just leave him at home and have someone swing by every couple of days to make sure he has food and water. I feel terrible about the timing of all this.

Poor Joshie. He's such a good kitty.

asked me if I could do something about cancer.

I said yes. I have a friend in his similar case. Just fight.

The 6th annual Out Shop Cancer event supporting Making Strides and the American Cancer Society is almost here.

Out Shop Cancer is a main store and marketplace shopping event and a signature Strides Campaign in Second Life in support of the American Cancer Society’s breast cancer programs and research.

The 2023 Out Shop Cancer event includes main store and marketplace shopping, a grid-wide hunt, an Out Shop Cancer Pop-up Market, and a special Gala event. Along with the many shopping opportunities, there will be several special raffles during the month, including raffles for eBody Reborn bodies, Belleza bodies, LeLutka heads, skin packs and much more.

In addition to the shopping, hunt and raffles, there will be an art walk and photo contest this year. The Easthaven Art Walk will also run Oct. 1 through Oct. 31 and feature the creative work of artists and photographers, with proceeds benefiting Strides. A photo contest with the theme, "Season of Hope" will be held at Easthaven and open to everyone to join in the fun!

With more than 70 stores participating ranging from clothes to decor to breedables, there is something for everyone. Sandie Slate, founder of Out Shop Cancer, says “The response from designers this year has been tremendous and the amount of support for the event has exceeded expectations. With the inclusion of the Pop-Up Market and the Gala event, this year’s event is jam-packed with shopping and much more.”

Slate continued: "By hosting events throughout the month, there's plenty to see and do -- all while helping to raise funds for a great cause."

The Out Shop Cancer event runs from Oct. 1 to Oct. 31. Shoppers will be able to pick up a shopping hud inworld at the Out Shop Cancer office. A list of contributing merchants with a shopping directory and the official bloggers can be found on the Out Shop Cancer website at www.outshopcancersecondlife.com/. Information about the Hunt, Pop-Up Market and Gala event will be available on the website as well.

All proceeds from this event go directly to the American Cancer Society’s breast cancer programs and services.

About Making Strides

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer or MSABC is the largest network of breast cancer awareness events in the nation, uniting more than 300 communities to finish the fight. Every breast cancer walk and event is an incredible and inspiring opportunity to honor those who have battled breast cancer, raise awareness about what we can do to reduce our breast cancer risk, and raise money to help the American Cancer Society fight the disease with research, information, services, and access to mammograms for women who need them.

October was breast cancer awareness month as you probably know. Because it's something that's special to me I wanted to do a photo for the month. Breast Cancer is binding. It is something that traps you and it is something hard to set yourself free from. This is something I wanted to portray in this photo.

On a side note. Has flickr sharpening gotten worse because it totally over sharpened this photo.

Debunk the Cancer Myths

There is Nothing I Can Do about Cancer

Truth:

There is a lot that can be done at an individual, community and policy level, and with the right strategies, a third of the most common cancers can be prevented.

" I couldn't let October's Breast Cancer Awareness (but not prevention) Month come to a close without posting a satire cartoon exposing all the pinkwashing we've seen that month. You can buy everything in pink these days, from bottled water to fried chicken, alcohol and even handguns. So why not cigarettes? All these pink products claim to give some mystery percentage of "net profits" (which could be zero if the company isn't profitable) to "find a cure for cancer" (a ridiculous proposition since we already have natural cures for cancer).

It's all part of the cancer industry's brainwashing propaganda that tries to convince people that we can cure cancer by going shopping! "

This week I travelled to Rice Lake in Lynn Valley. I was a bit lost trying to find the lake and the orientation maps didn't seem to help me. As the light faded, I stumbled upon an idyllic clearing, perfect for play. Nature is beautiful and peaceful on the North Shore and I look forward to returning soon.

Studies have shown that a person's genes can cause an increased risk in breast and ovarian cancer. This infographic shows the chromosomal mutations and the risk they can pose.

According to the National Cancer Institute, studies have shown that inherited mutations in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes account for 5-10 percent of all breast cancers and 15 percent of all ovarian cancers. While genetic testing is encouraged only for those who have a family history of breast or ovarian cancer, education and awareness are important to early detection and treatment.

How can a better understanding of the cause of these genetic mutations help further the cause of finding a cure for cancer?

I love taking photos during the final hour of sunset aka the magic hour as the light always looks amazing. I tried something new by cloning out the mirror’s reflection in Photoshop so that it appeared to be a window through my body. It was a fun learning experience and I’m happy with the result.

To recap: On Sunday, May 8th, I completed Cycle 17 Week 1. I have Multiple Myeloma and anemia, a rare blood cancer. It is incurable, but treatable. From February to November 2013, I received Velcade chemo through weekly in-hospital injections as an outpatient. Since February 9th 2015, I have been on Pomalyst and dexamethasone chemo treatment (Pom/dex).

We spent the weekend before Sue's mastectomy on the Oregon Coast. We marked the occasion with a classic, sexy hotel room photo shoot.

" Cholera, diarrhea, tuberculosis – some of the most deadly diseases to plague the human race throughout history are all preventable in some way. Cancer, perhaps the biggest stymie to modern medicine, is also preventable in most cases. This is good news depending on how you look at it." ...

"Unstable" is one of the negative traits that go under the Zodiac sign "Cancer".

I researched and interviewed people which are Cancers. I've been given an example that if a Cancer fell in love, he would either fall madly in love OR dislike the person. So, it's either black OR white. It's where grey does not exist.

The model's face was actually painted in black and white, the hallow created at the back, was to give the photo some depth and not let the face mold with the background.

I have my October blood test results and I’m pleased to report that my cancer levels are lower this month.

M Protein (g/L)

Oct = 2.3

Sept = 2.8

Aug = value missing

July = value missing

June = 1.9

May = 1.7

Apr = 2.5

Mar = 3

The M Protein is a complete and accurate measure of the cancer/myeloma in my body, it consists 100% of abnormal protein. A zero value means no cancer is detected in my blood. The Beta 2 and igG measures I’ve previously discussed, contain good and abnormal protein and therefore aren’t as accurate.

I’m maintaining a positive outlook on life!

Complicated.... Cancer is ..!

just that — complicated. And for good reason. They tend to be overly emotional, so many times their pessimism gets in the way of looking at the good in life. Make sure if this is you that you're CHOOSING how you feel, and understanding that with every bad thing comes something good.

"Hope you will enjoy it.
