The first school was constructed on this site in 1885 and named after the Cameron family which homesteaded nearby. This building opened in 1917, soon after the Cameron School was consolidated with Caduricis School.

At Cameron Lake

Illa de Vancouver, CANADÀ 2024

The Cameron Lake Viewpoint is a scenic rest stop located along Highway 4 on Vancouver Island, offering spectacular views of Cameron Lake and the surrounding mountains.

Location: Cameron Lake is situated between the city of Port Alberni and the town of Qualicum Beach, and the viewpoint is a popular stop on the road connecting the east and west sides of the island.

Scenery: The lake is known for its clear, deep waters and is surrounded by dense old-growth forest. The viewpoint allows travelers to pause and take in the tranquil atmosphere, with the towering mountains as a backdrop.

Proximity to Landmarks: The lake is located just east of the iconic MacMillan Provincial Park (also known as Cathedral Grove), famous for its gigantic Douglas fir trees. This makes the area a hub for forest and mountain exploration.

Thirty years ago, in 1989, was released "The Abyss" movie by James Cameron. I was thrilled since first time I saw, finding the story amazing, played by an exceptional cast and characterized by amazing special effects and perfect music! After watching movie too many times (I still own VHS), in my mind were impressed concept arts of Ron Cobb, in particular the mini submarines realized by production as real models (in scale and 1:1) for underwater shooting.

So I decided to rebuild Flatbed and Cab1 submarines in Lego to celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of movie's release.

Technically submarines are slightly oversized to make the best use of some sloped and round bricks and colors are not 100% like original (due to the lack of Lego palette) but models still recognizable!

I added some details that surely enthusiasts will enjoy like radio inside the cockpit of Flatbed which Lieutenant Hiram Coffey will break with a elbow nudge during submarine duel, canopy with adhesive strips to recreate original frame and the DPV (diver propulsion vehicle) on frontside of Cab1 used for rotation in water.

The minifigures of Dr. Lindsey Brigman behind the spherical porthole of Cab1 and of Navy Seal team commander Lieutenant Hiram Coffey at the control of Flatbed, could not miss in cockpits of submarines.

I present both submarines in sailing trim, suspended on deep seafloor, dark and rocky, almost wasteland, as featured in the movie.

With these two mocs I want to celebrate the anniversary of this brilliant and strangely underrated (compared to others) masterpiece of sci-fi genre directed by James Cameron.

I hope the AFOL community likes it and that brings to discover (if ever seen before) this movie!

These are some photos I took of the Cameron Peak Fire just northeast of Estes Park on Friday night, Oct. 16, 2020.

Actually there are 2 photos merged here as the dynamic range was too great to capture in one photo. Thanks for your visits and comments, they are always appreciated.

August 16 is James Cameron's birthday. I was able to see him speak in 2018 just before his exhibition, Challenging the Deep, opened at the National Maritime Museum in Sydney.

He had a lot of interesting things to say, & it was an amazing experience being in the same room as him.

Aliens is my favourite film of his. I think it is his masterpiece. I hope he enjoyed his day.

I wish they kept the audience Q&A open for longer, as I missed out. I wanted to thank him for making Aliens as I love this film so much. I did get to speak to David Lynch via Skype later that year, which made up for my disappointment.

The Cameron Falls are actually in the Waterton Townsite in Waterton, Alberta Canada. We stayed in town while we visited the Waterton Lakes National Park.

I took this photo of Cameron a few months ago at Samford University. I like this photo because it is one of the few times I have managed to successfully manually focus my Mamiya.

It would be really great if you could take some time to check out my blog! I'd love to get some feedback on my work, and it's always great to hear from you guys. Thanks for taking the time to look at these!

I’ve known Cameron since I was maybe ten years old. By far I’ve know him the longest of many of my friends. I’ve seen him at his best and also when he’s be downtrodden. We went from barely seeing each other to seeing each other everyday, then a year apart, and now it’s intermittent. Timing, schedules, work, life. Things get in the way but we’ve managed to have some good times throughout.

I remember the day I met him. My parents brought me and my brother over (I learned later it was because they were selling his parents place). Cameron and his brother were having a water fight and soaked me when I entered their backyard. Sensitive and upset I ran off crying and found my way to their bedroom where I got lost in their expansive videogame collection. About a year later I transferred schools and ended up seeing him again as we became neighbours. He’s a year older than I am so there was a break in our hangouts when he went to highschool. When I caught up Cameron helped me out by introducing me to the majority of friends I made while there.

Around the time I got into photography he was building up a band with Graham, Michael and his brother. It was called Fall With Them. I went to shows, we did shoots at rehearsal, on the street, and more. Like all good things it eventually came to an end. Another band formed from it’s remains but Cameron eventually strayed away from music. I felt bad at the time for how things happened. If things had gone differently who knows where’d we all be. Luckily it allowed Cameron to follow another passion in animation which eventually led him to a job with EA, and has followed into a new career with Capcom.

Him and I share an odd and niche sense of humour. Throughout everything that happened, good and bad or whatever it was, I think that the weird things we related on kept our friendship going. Life, work, schedules and timing will get in the way now and then, it’s unavoidable. Things get in the way. But throughout it all, the best and the worst, we’ve managed to have some good times along the way. I don’t know what course my life will take, I don’t think anyone does. One thing you can be more certain on are the people you’ll have in your life. I like to think I’ll have Cameron around for a long time to come.

It's been about 3 years since i seen one of my best friends in the world. The last time i saw her was her wedding day in 2007 before she moved to georgia to live with her husband. She has been back to california since then but our schedules never lined up until this past weekend. I was very excited to see her after all these years and i was even more excited to see her newborn baby son Cameron. The plan was to get to her mothers house early to spend the day with her but then my dad called to tell me he got some dodgers tickets. I didn't have the heart to tell him I had other plans so i pushed my plans back with my friend cristal so i could attend the game. The game ran long so i had to rush from downtown LA to corona and if you know anything about southern california you would know thats quite a drive. I was estastic to see Cristal once again. It felt like i had just seen her yesterday. Her newborn baby boy was as cute as could be. I really didn't have a plan for shooting him so we just went to the front yard to get a few shots. I honestly don't know how baby photographers do it. it was very difficult to get him to look toward the camera or even keep him sitting up. In the end i was happy with a few shots i got. Im very impressed with the quality of my new 17-55 2.8 nikon lens. Hopefully I will get to see Cristal one more time before she heads back to Georgia.

Cameron Highlands

Tea Plantations At Cameron Highlands, Malaysia

Charles Cameron was an architect and interior designer of Scots origin, who came to Russia in 1779 at the behest of Catherine the Great, and established himself as one of the Empress's favourite designers, working at Tsarskoe Selo for over fifteen years. Little is known of the half-century of his life before that date, except that in 1772 he published a scientific tract on the architecture of Roman baths, which is presumably what first attracted Catherine's attention.

Cameron's design for the baths was based on measurements taken by Palladio from the ruins of the Constantine Baths in Rome. The modestly sized two-storey building that he housed them in has a simple but effective design that works on the contrast between the monumental slabs of rough-hewn Pudost travertine that cover the lower storey and the delicate classical decorations of the upper floor. Inside, there is nothing left of the original bathhouse and the lower chambers are now used for temporary exhibitions. The upper storey, however, contains what are probably Cameron's finest interior designs, known collectively as the Agate Rooms. These spectacular rooms are literally covered in Russian semi-precious stones, including agate, jasper, malachite, lapis lazuli, and alabaster. The Great Hall at the center of the suite is particularly fine, with a wonderfully intricate bronze coffered ceiling above pale-pink artificial marble walls, elegant malachite pillars, and an abundance of classical statuary.

I returned to photograph this former rural school in the autumn to get some angles that were blocked by leaves during my first visit. This school was completed in 1917.

The owner of the school property, who also owns the house next door, says that the school attracts quite a few visitors each year, even though it is hard to see from the main road because of trees and bushes. He cannot afford to maintain it and there are no other funds available, so it will continue its downward spiral.
