Last weekend, I got to do something I never imagined I would. I shot some photos on a 20x24 camera using an instant R4A color reversial process. Huge thanks to Brooklyn Film Camera for organizing, Wyckoff Windows Studio for the space and the amazing Ethan Moses from Cameradactyl for sharing his knowledge and home built 20x24 camera with us all in these workshops.
While it may not be an actual polaroid, the whole process felt a lot like shooting polaroids. And of course the instant development Ethan had shared with us. So I am posting it in the group and will be back to regularly scheduled polaroid for the rest of the week.
Cameradactyl Homunculus with Portra 400 in an RB67 back and the 75mm Mamiya-Press lens, digitized with a Fuji X-T2 and Minolta Celtic 50mm/3.5 macro lens and Negative Lab Pro. This stump was cut around a century ago, indicated by the slot where the sawyers board was inserted into the tree. It likely sat in a river valley for decades before being picked up by a flooding river and deposited in salt water to roam around the Salish Sea.
First test shot from the Cameradactyl Homunculus MP with the Mamiya-Press 50mm lens and Portra 400 in an RB67 back. The cameras was on a tripod, focused with infinity on f/8 on the DOF scale, 1/8 second at f/16. Scanned with an Epson V800.

Cameradactyl OG 4x5 Hand Camera with 135mm Optar lens, Atomic X film. I think the film holder I used for this shot may have a light leak. The negative was heavily fogged, but I still managed to gin up some contrast in post processing. The negative was shot with a Fujifilm XT2 and Minolta Celtic 50mm/3.5 macro lens.
The second and completely functional Cameradactyl camera built to take Mamiya-Press lenses and any 2x3 Graflok film back. Shown here with the 50mm lens, an uncoupled range finder and a wide angle viewfinder. An RB67 roll film holder is mounted. Ethan Moses designed and printed this camera. I contributed a few design ideas and some testing. I am really excited about using it.
I'm experimenting with processing black and white printing paper as direct-positives. For more on the process, take a look at Cameradactyl's YouTube feed.

I wrote a whole long blah-blah about this camera I made here. I also shipped a few cameras to some of my favorite photographers and one of them made a 5 Frames With earlier in the week.
As I write this, my Kickstarter just ended, and I figured I’d be stuck indoors babysitting printers for...
