Part of the buildings of Petra that is still standing is inheritance of the period of dominion of the Roman Empire on the region. Among them are temples, an amphitheater and an avenue of columns.
At the end of the valley where the Roman part stands, stands the famous rock formation of the camel. Talking about them in Petra, you can go for a camel ride or just take pictures with them. Unlike other Arab countries, in Jordan no one charges money for a portrait alongside this nice animal.

Seen in a beautiful shop in Banff where only Christmas items are sold. The shoes on the camel's feet are amazing.

Camel wrestling is usually organized in the Aegean (Selçuk, Germencik, Muğla, Denizli), Marmara (Balıkesir, Çanakkale) and Mediterranean (Burdur, Isparta, Antalya) regions and is associated with Yoruk (Nomad) culture. Camel wrestling is held in open squares.
Camel wrestling is held between male camels called "Tülü", which are formed from the mating of single-humped female "yoz" camels and double-humped male camels called "buhur". These camels are raised exclusively for wrestling by camel keepers called "Savran". Wrestling camels are selected on the basis of lineage, just like horses. Care is taken to ensure that the Tülüs who will become wrestlers are of the blood of the wrestling camels.
Camel wrestling takes place in four sizes, Foot, Middle, Under-Head and Head, and wins are achieved by making them run away, shouting or breaking them down. The camels are called "pehlivan", just like in other wrestling, and are announced by the jazzman. Camel wrestling is usually held in the winter months. For example, in İzmir, Manisa and Aydın, the dates of the wrestling are between December 7 and March 15.
It is said that the first traditional camel wrestling in Turkey took place in the 19th century in the village of Hıdırbeyli in the Germencik district of Aydın. However, in the chapter "The End of Camels" of Münis Armağan's book "Interesting Events in the History of Western Anatolia", it is stated that camel wrestling was organized in and around Tire during the reign of Mahmut II (around 18th.century).

DESERT DREAM – OMAR AKRAM
I am a Bactrian Camel
oh yes, I'll have you know
my weight is borne equally
on my third and fourth toes
I am an even-toed ungulate
or so the story goes
I am far superior to
the one-humped dromedary
I'm from ancient Bactria;
I'm kind and soft and hairy
my fur is like a teddy bear,
but don't cuddle me; be wary!
I am silky soft like my ancestors
who travelled the Silk Road
climbing up high mountains;
cold; carrying their heavy load
or moving across inhospitable deserts;
screeching in camel code
I am feeling very lazy today
relaxing in the rain
it's stopped a little while;
these tourists are such a pain
leaning out their windows
taking my portrait again and again
I am sighing with contentment
as they pass me by
there is no resentment;
I pretend to them I'm shy
showing them the back of me;
well that's as much as I can try
I doze; I dream; I long to be
in the silence of the night
but oh those shrieking jackanapes
now hidden from my sight
I fall asleep at last and wait
for the new dawn to break light.

Thanks for visiting. I am very grateful for the very kind comments and faves.
Since returning home I am experiencing a lot of computer and internet connection problems. It is very frustrating. I comment a few pictures and then have to reboot or constantly refresh the page and then the comment does not always print. I do not know if it is problems with Flickr or my internet or with my computer or a combination of all three, but I do apologise sincerely and will try to catch up as and when I can. Thank you for your patience with me <3
