Calla is the national flower of St. Helena, it grows there widely. In new Zealand one cultivar is even listed on a national pest plan and they try to prevent the sale, distribution and cultivation. The origin from this plant is in the middle to southern African region.
The calla lilies (probably Zantedeschia aethiopica) have taken a bit of a beating from all of the work we've been having done around the house right now, but they're still in exuberant bloom.
These grow right at the base of a Northern California Black Walnut (Juglans californica var. hindsii) and seem to thrive despite the high amount of tannic acid from the dripline and exuded by the roots of this tree. They also don't mind the part shade they receive, and grow in nearly full shade elsewhere.
