Flower called Calla lily. One of the most beautiful lily i have ever seen. Saw today near by our cafeteria.

The recent rain in Northern California left lovely dewdrops on the Calla Lilies of Garrapata State Park.

Calla Lilies. I almost passed on even trying this shot - the lighting was terrible and the background was awful.
An old piece of corrugated cardboard hid the background, and a ringflash mounted on my handheld camera, supplemented by indirect lighting from second handheld flash to provide side / backlighting helped to take care of the lighting problems.
Given the challenging conditions and set-up I am pleased with the final result.

Liselotte Strelow (* 11. September 1908 in Redel (bei Neustettin), Pommern / heute Redło (Powiat Świdwiński) a village in the administrative district of Gmina Połczyn-Zdrój, within Świdwin County, West Pomeranian Voivodeship, in north-western Poland ; †30. September 1981 in Hamburg) war eine deutsche Fotografin.
Die Bauerntochter ging 1930 nach Berlin, wo sie an der Schule des Lette-Vereins Fotografie-Kurse belegte. 1932 lernte sie im Studio der jĂĽdischen Fotografin Suse Byk, danach wurde sie von Kodak (Deutschland) angestellt. Im Rahmen der Arisierung ĂĽbernahm sie 1938 das Studio von Suse Byk am KurfĂĽrstendamm. Das Studio sowie ihr Fotoarchiv wurden bei einem Bombenangriff restlos vernichtet.
Nach 1945 ging sie zunächst nach Detmold, 1950 nach Düsseldorf. Sie spezialisierte sich auf Porträt- und Theaterfotografie. Ihre Bilder in Zusammenarbeit mit Gustaf Gründgens und Elisabeth Flickenschildt machten sie bald bekannt. Nachdem die Deutsche Bundespost ihr Porträt des Bundespräsidenten Theodor Heuss 1959 zur Grundlage einer Briefmarkenserie ausgewählt hatte, konnte sie sich ihre Auftraggeber aussuchen. Bekannt wurden ihre Porträts von Konrad Adenauer, Rudolf Augstein, Maria Callas, Uwe Johnson und Thomas Mann sowie von Ingeborg Bachmann, Gottfried Benn, Joseph Beuys, Jean Cocteau, Marlene Dietrich und Hildegard Knef.
Liselotte Strelow war Mitglied der Gesellschaft Deutscher Lichtbildner (GDL) und der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Photographie (DGPh). Ein fotografischer Teilnachlass - vornehmlich Porträtfotografien - befindet sich im Rheinischen Landesmuseum in Bonn, der weitaus größere theaterfotografische Nachlassteil im Theatermuseum der Landeshauptstadt Düsseldorf, früher: Dumont-Lindemann Archiv.

for once I worked out what the flower was!
Zantedeschia aethiopica (known as calla lily and arum lily) is a species in the family Araceae, native to southern Africa.
I shot this during a photography workshop which was held on Whidbey Island which is in the state of Washington. The lily was outside and the setup was quite a challenge, especially positioning the tripod where I wanted it. From the EXIF data you can see that I used a Canon 100-400 lens but it also had the Canon 500D macro diopter on it and I can't recall whether I also used a x1.4 coupler and extension tubes (which I did do on some shots that same day). Fortunately there was no wind because I needed f32 to get the depth of field.

I favour minimalism. Stripped of all extraneous details there is only form, texture and hue, each of which must be meticulously executed because there is nowhere for flaws and imperfection to hide. The finished results look deceptively simple. The calla lily is the perfect flower to use when I want to create a design that is minimal and elegant.
As a flower, the calla lily is the very essence of femininity and sensuality. Resembling the form of a woman, this flower was a popular subject in American art in the latter half of the 19th century, especially after Freud provided a sexual interpretation of its form. Georgia O’Keefe used the calla lily as a recurring provocative theme in many of her paintings and became known as “the lady of the lilies”. Nineteenth century art photographers also used the calla lily as an erotic motif. Diego Rivera, a famous early 20th century artist, also depicted the calla lily in a number of his works.
