Must be the engineer in me. On a recent 10 mile day hike with a 17 lb pack, I was curious about what my average speed was. Working backwards, this calculation does not eliminate two brief rest stops, a very short off-trail excursion, nor messing around with the cellphone time, all of which would occur on any similar trip, making these numbers handy for future reference. Since my route was a loop, and I know the cumulative elevation gain, the cumulative climbing is equal to the cumulative descending--about 2000 feet. About 2.4 mph all-in, which is not too shabby at an altitude of about 5000 feet ASL on sometimes rocky trails. Yeah, I'm completely bilingual when it comes to units, even nonsensical Imperial ones--I do all my flying in feet, knots, and inches of mercury, but increasingly I am hiking in kilometres and metres, since most of my topographic maps have gone metric.

Since I have a calculator and all that, I thought I would share.

Figuring that the average baby uses 8 diapers in a 24 hour period.... although newborns use many more, perhaps as many as 10-12 per day....

This adds up to 2920 diapers a year, or roughly 36.5- $20 packages of diapers for an annual total of $730.00

Multiply that times the average of two years that each child is in diapers and you have $1460 of diapers for one child, for a total of 5840 diapers that go to landfills and leach their waste into our groundwater.

Have three children and you are putting an average of 17,520 diapers into landfills, at a total cost of $4,380

And that doesn't even count baby wipes.

When you do the math, it's really quite insane.

Okay, off my soapbox now.

The HP 48 is a series of graphing calculators using Reverse Polish Notation (RPN) and the RPL programming language, produced by Hewlett-Packard from 1990 until 2003. The series include the HP 48S, HP 48SX, HP 48G, HP 48GX, and HP 48G+, the G models being expanded and improved versions of the S models. The models with an X suffix are expandable via special RAM (memory expansion) and ROM (software application) cards. In particular, the GX models have more onboard memory than the G models.

Friends today we are going to talk about an important online tool for help you in Graphing of linear equations named as Graphing calculator for free. First let us elaborate about graphing, Graphing is way of drawing or plotting 2D representation of any linear equation with the help of related coordinates of that equation. Graphing calculator is a fast responsive online calculator which responds with a plotted graph of a linear algebraic equation which is provided as input to the graphing calculator.

I spent many long hours with this calculator, over many years starting in the mid-80s. I was pleased to find it in a box today, and it still works fine.

Seems a long time ago now, when "calculator" wasn't a mere feature of electronic devices ranging from computers to cell phones, but rather a product unto itself, dedicated hardware and all.

The computer was a Ferranti Mark I*, designed at Manchester University (with help from the legendary Alan Turing) and built by British company Ferranti. The Amsterdam model was called MIRACLE, for "Mokums (Amsterdam's) Industrial Research Automatic Calculator for Laboratory and Engineering", but some people nicknamed it "May It Replace All Chaotic Laboratory Experiments". My mother was one of its programmers and kept a photo album.
