Everything's packed away, this is all I've got left...
My livingroom floor is getting fixed while I go skiing.

we knew you well.
This is my geeky "going away" picture. This little bit of plastic and silicon is what keeps me connected. And it has to go back to the cable co today. *frown*
The move'll be fun though. See you all in seattle!!
Oh, Rakka and I will be blogging from the road. In addition to flickr picks there'll be stuff appearing at these places:.

That's my stuff, Rakka's will show up at the places she mentions here.
Over the weekend, my internet and phone just randomly... died. Three splitters, a trip to Target, and a trip to the actual cable company office later, I am now on the internet again. Hooray!
Standby for a little house cleaning.
Last year Yahoo! Photos migrated all member photos over to flickr. In the process, Yahoo! flagged them all private (which was good) and it used the original posting date, filing them appropriately in the middle and/or beginning of my stream... not so good.
I like my first flickr photo. I also like some of the photos I had forgotten about. So... over this weekend I'll be posting a big stream of these missing, unseen, early photos.
Might get a little scary...

Estimados amigos

Day 106/366
All the lights on my modem are on! FINALLY!
(Over the weekend, my internet and phone just randomly... died. After many conversations with various computers and humans at the cable company, we determined that either my splitter or some of the coax had randomly become defective. Three splitters, a trip to Target, and a trip to the actual cable company office later, I am now on the internet again. Hooray!)
So, after work I tried to do another comparison with how crappy the Mini's connection was versus the MacBook's, and I got completely opposite results...which was great because it meant the problem wasn't my computer. But because Cindy's laptop was getting a wonky connection, I narrowed it down to a faulty ethernet cable. A super easy $7 fix.
When my parents had a problem with their cablemodem a few months ago, apparently one of the things Cox did was to take the built-in 6-way splitter out of the circuit. Instead, they used the two incoming feeds from the box outside with two three-way splitters.
Cisco 2514 router rocking the new business internet connection. No more T1 via Cox Fibernet, it's business cablemodem from now on.

Dialup modem, baby -- 28.8 kbit/s. My current 40/5 Mbit/s cablemodem can download a 100 MB file in 18 seconds. The above could have done that in 8 hours -- provided you could maintain a consistent noise-free phone line connection for that long. Progress.
This is the wiring closet on the outside of the office. We're going to put a shelf in there to put the cablemodem, router, a switch, and VoIP box on.
That little cable loop is a crossover cable between the xbox in the living room and the router in the back bedroom.
Eventually I'd like to run the home audio system to here as well -- it's currently in a linen closet upstairs, as are all the RG-6 runs and cable splitters.
The other night the computer got stuck while shutting down, so I took some pictures of the many LED lights.

Sending the data from the "internet" channel (cablemodem) on Cox to netcat/strings via this HD HomeRun network attached tuner. It's encrypted or encoded. Nothing plaintext after 2 minutes or so.
