I wasn’t shopping for anything in particular but hey, you never know what you might find. I wore t-neck, denim mini and new navy cable knit tights with my Doc Martens MJ’s. In this instance I found a nice knee length kilt that I just couldn’t leave in the rack! Photos to come.

Full of the joys of Spring

October is finally here and fall has always been my favorite season! I love the changing of the leaves. The chill in the air makes it the perfect time of year for wearing sweaters!

This is one of my favorite style of sweaters, I have this in quite a few colors, but cream is a perfect autumn color. I'm also wearing a fabulous pair of jeans and one of my favorite pairs of boots.

I hope that you all enjoy fall as much as I do!!!

For #ThrowbackThursday this shot taken in late 2009 during my very first "studio" shoot, with local hopeful Toronto actress/singer Tina Hung.

I made every technical mistake in the book, but learned a hell of a lot, naturally. Although this was a bit underexposed and the key light was poorly positioned, luckily I shot it in RAW and so I have been able to "rescue" it in this brand new edit I just did for #TBT.

The studio, in case you didn't guess, was my living room. Main light was a speedlight in an umbrella, camera-right. The background was lit by a bare flash with a homemade snoot shooting through an IKEA room divider, camera-left.

ever-present pinstriped blazer - thrifted in the boys' department, $3

sterling silver green and yellow amber necklace - a very sweet gift I received as thanks for some wedding invites I designed.

pale pink 70s sundress - another very sweet gift from Jen at Thunderhorse Vintage, just for choosing her store for my latest article! I never wear pink, but this peachy mauve was irresistible.

vintage wayfarers - $8 at Thunderhorse Vintage

cableknit tights - $2 target clearance

ankle boots - $14 at GoJane - Hallelujah! These boots filled my craving to a tee. And they're comfortable too! I promise I will never give GoJane a hard time ever again.

Costa Rica shopping bag - flea market, $2. It has this rad, tribal banana and pineapple print all over it.

fascinator headband - I totally live in this thing, I love it so much! Another very sweet gift from my good friend and guest blogger, Mary Catherine of Little Red Fox. You can buy your very own here!

Golly gee, I'm a lucky girl. Glee!

So I'm off to sing in a show (Eve and I are doing a Fleet Foxes cover) tonight at the Fox & Goose and then camping on a river for the weekend! Its supposed to hit 70 degrees and I couldn't be more thrilled. It may be time to dance a jig or sing a ditty of some kind. Maybe BOTH AT THE SAME TIME.

Before it became rainy/cold.

I did these 'quick' portrait shots of Sandra in her Rosebery studio on the afternoon I took delivery of the Fujifilm X-Pro1. Needless to say I certainly did not have the cameras handling under my belt yet! The shots are made in the daylight studio; I set the XF60mmF2.4 R Macro wide open at 200 iso, auto shutter speed, auto focus mounted on a sturdy tripod and shot about twenty frames. These are my favourite three as a composite-image sequence.

A little post hypnosis fun. Still in a bit of a trance and my big collar stretched and hair messy. 😂😂

I always look forward to Kathryne's birthday. She's a very appreciative recipient of her gifts, and her special day gives me an opportunity to be creative.

Several years ago, we started a new tradition where I design and make a necklace for her each February for her birthday. She is celebrating her 21st birthday this year, so I wanted to do something special, and several talented young ladies used their skills to help turn my dream into a beautiful reality.

Christy at the Craggy Moor store on Etsy created this adorable, pink, cable knit teddy bear per my special request, and Lisa at Artbylisi on Etsy created gorgeous, made-to-order sets of Wild PInk Swirls and Bright Pink Lights Mini lampwork beads to serve as the foundation of the necklace and earrings.

At Friendze, I was assisted by a very patient and helpful young lady whose advice and kindness gave me the confidence to create a set of jewelry that I am very proud of. I only do this once a year, so I am very appreciative of the encouragement that I receive along the way.

The lampwork beads are capped with Sterling silver fittings and enhanced by plum, fuchsia and black crystals. Sterling silver accents add texture and depth. Of course, all of the real beauty is supplied by Kathryne.

It was very exciting for me to get to watch her open the gift right after worship services this morning at church. The little bear, wearing the jewelry as pictured here, was gently nestled underneath bright sheets of rainbow-colored tissue paper in a pink gift bag sprinkled with a pattern of bright-colored hearts.

I highly recommend trying your hand at something creative the next time you give a gift to someone special. There's nothing quite like it. Sure, your first attempt might be a little clumsy. Mine was, but the way Kathryne wore it, you would have thought it was a Harry Winston necklace ... clunky style!

Make something as unique and special as the person you're giving it to, and have fun in the process.
