When we (a German women and a British couple) were talking with Denis in the park in Camagüey a group of about five guys came up and started chatting with us. They didn't speak much English but we got along fine between the German woman, Denis, and I. They were in their early twenties and have formed a hip-hop group called Cuba, S.A. (S.A. is the Spanish version of Inc.). Their lyrics are impressive and positive, they just haven't been discovered yet. We ended up hanging out the next two nights and had a great time, more enlightening conversations and a fun bunch. I was also impressed because in the U.S. you wouldn't find young folks like that interested in talking about their lives, politics, etc, and in such an articulate way. You can defintitely tell that education is a high priority here and also that the arts are highly supported.

In the spring of 1950 a group of students from Georgia State College for Women, now Valdosta State University, visited Cuba. My mother, Patsy Sutherland (Kelly) was part of that group. I recently found a few negatives from that trip.
