Connecticut Southern CSO-4 heads south across the Farmington River at Windsor with a trio of GP38s for power.

Chicago Symphony Orchestra ladies and gentleman. One of my favorite venues.

I am not heading there tonight, but I am heading to the Gifted Gala 2017 held by the Lemont Center for the Arts. The Gala is being held at the Lithuanian World Center Art Museum (which is a hidden gem) in Lemont, Illinois and will benefit the arts. I am very honored to have four pieces hanging in the show.

Have a wonderful night!

OHCR 8530 and CSOR 2011 are pulling roughly 70 cars south toward Hartford, which is only a few miles away from this view in Windsor. About ten years ago the CSO had six of these 8500-series engines, but all of them were either shipped to other railroads or scrapped by 2014. In an ironic twist, the 8511 and 8530 were sent back to Connecticut from Ohio in 2019 and so far the 8530 has been a regular appearance on the mainline while the 8511 is still in the shop.

Just another frame of Connecticut Southern Railroad's Hartford to Springfield turn job CSO-4 from last Friday. The train is led by a pair of B39-8Es in the form of orange repainted CSOR 3901 and CSOR 8530 still in its as delivered LMX gray paint and number dating from it Nov. 1987 build date by GE.

They are on Amtrak's Springfield Line main near MP 50 crossing the Connecticut River on the Warehouse Point Bridge crossing from the town of Windsor Locks into Enfield. The 1470 ft long double track bridge (though only one track is in service) dates from 1903 when the circa 1866 iron bridge was rebuilt by the New Haven Railroad, but even that structure was the second one on the site replacing a wooden Howe truss that first crossed here in 1843 by NH predecessor Hartford and Springfield Railroad.

In my life I have had a wound that is bleeding the wound I also had when I was in Libya where they sold me three times and shot me once the pain I feel inside is heavier than what I had in Libya.

I noticed this unusual alignment of the Caltech Submillimeter Observatory and the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope while wandering around Mauna Kea recently. CSO is finishing its operations and ultimately will be deconstructed and removed. JCMT just changed ownership from the Joint Astronomy Centre (United Kingdom) to the University of Hawaii and the East Asian Observatory. Together with the construction of the Thirty Meter Telescope and replacement of CFHT with a 10-meter telescope, it's an exciting time for Mauna Kea.

After holding briefly for the Vermonter, CSO-4 gets back underway at Windsor behind CSOR 2038 and NECR 3855.

Connecticut Southern Railroad train CSO-4 is northbound on Amtrak's Springfield Line main near MP 48 crossing the Connecticut River on the Warehouse Point Bridge crossing from the town of Windsor Locks into Enfield behind an SD40-2 and GP38.

The Genesee and Wyoming owned Connecticut Southern is a small but busy shortline that dates from 1996 when then Rail America acquired the freight rights on Amtrak's line and the so called Hartford cluster from Conrail. As the length of this freight attests, business is robust on the present day CSO.

Interestingly this train was not at all what I had planned for my Friday. My goal was to chase New England Central train 608 back south to Palmer with the matched pair of blue and gold GP38s. They had been together on the Willmantic based job for two weeks and the last time I tried on Christmas Eve they were delayed for six hours and I was unable to wait. Today was sunny and clear and they were looking to turn back south nice and early, which is exactly what they did....except with one catch. They dropped one of the two units in Palmer and returned back south with only one, long hood forward no less! It was hardly worth chasing that so I went to see what else I could find in the area besides CSXT.

This was a reasonable consolation prize, and there was more to follow making for a decent day despite missing out on my main goal yet again.

On today’s trip to Springfield, we ran into CSO-4 which had the 3901 and the 2011. Heading north the 2011 was leading and it was rumored to have around 100 cars heading south. We headed to the bridge over the Connecticut river to grab some shots of it heading out of the yard, and then to this spot to watch it go southbound. The top down view combined with the vertical camera come out to make a pretty cool looking picture

CSO-4 wasn't far behind 4404, with today's northbound turn led by CSOR 3901, whose G&W orange paint was still relatively fresh at the time, and 2011.

The 3901 is ex-CSOR 8511, which I had last seen leading ten years prior, when it still wore faded LMX red and grey.

ARRIVA Buses Wales VDL Cadet 2638 - CX07 CSO hurries through Bodelwyddan working route 13 to Llandudno. Despite appearances, the most obvious being the CX registration plate, this is not a native Welsh bus. It began life with ARRIVA North West, came to Wales for a period on loan at Rhyl depot following the demise of GHA, went back to North West, spent a period on loan with ARRIVA Midlands at Leicester, and finally returned to Wales upon the collapse of Express Motors, this time allocated to Bangor and as seen here working out of the Llandudno sub-depot.
