The holidays and a conference had me in the northeast for the past three weeks, giving me a chance to return to my old haunts and test how much California has ruined my tolerance for cold weather. New England, of course, was happy to provide a straight week of single-digit weather, which did somewhat limit the amount of rail-related excursions.
On one such brisk outing, with the mercury hovering around ten degrees, we kick things off with NECR 2048 and CSOR 3399 running flat out through Longmeadow on the point of the southbound turn of CSO-1.
