The CSIS Energy and National Security Program is pleased to welcome Fatih Birol, Chief Economist at the International Energy Agency (IEA), to present the IEA's 2014 World Energy Outlook. The global energy landscape is evolving at a rapid pace, reshaping long-held expectations for our energy future. Dr. Birol will help shed light on the rapidly evolving global energy landscape, presenting the WEO's comprehensive analysis of medium- and longer-term energy trends. This year’s edition of the WEO also has a special focus on the outlook for nuclear power and its implications, and an in-depth study of sub-Saharan Africa, highlighting the prospects for improving access to modern energy services and for developing the region’s huge resource potential in a way that contributes not only to regional and global energy balances, but also to local and social well-being.
