Catholic Relief Services (CRS) is a leader in the NGO community and serves as a model of how to support impoverished people overseas. Over the past several years the way in which development efforts are implemented has undergone a radical transformation, in particular through an increased use of public-private partnerships that seek to capture the skills, resources, and experiences of the private sector abroad. CRS has gone through a significant journey over the past 10 years regarding its engagement with the business community, specifically through its partnerships with Jollibee Group Foundation, an organization that increases Filipino access to basic community services, and Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, a leader in specialty coffee and coffee makers.
In this conference, panelists from CRS, Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, and Jollibee Group Foundation will discuss how to leverage supply chains to achieve sustainable, equitable, and inclusive growth; how NGOs play a critical role in helping integrate global, regional, and local businesses into development efforts; and the opportunities and challenges for scaling up NGO efforts.

The CSIS Energy and National Security Program and the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) are pleased to co-sponsor an event addressing fugitive methane emissions across the natural gas value chain. The U.S. unconventional oil and gas revolution that reversed decades-old trends of fossil fuel production declines in the U.S. has had ripple effects globally. Expansion of natural gas resources and production has inspired a rigorous environmental debate about the regulation of these new resources. As the primary component of natural gas and a potent green house gas, the regulation of fugitive methane emissions has moved to the forefront of national regulatory debates. In order to address these issues, the event will feature two panels: one addressing the science around the significance of methane as a potent greenhouse gas and the second looking at what is being done by government and industry (upstream and downstream) to reduce emissions and leakage.

I spotted this van parked in a lot on the main drag in Tillamook (Highway 101). Kinda odd since I hadn't heard about any murders in town recently (this is the kind of van that shows up if there's been a grizzly homicide so they can scrape the guts off the wall). The company to the right of the photo sells car batteries so *maybe* the van was on its way to or from somewhere and the crew needed a battery unexpectedly. Beats me.
