A month of extreme macro

This another view of Crystal Mill that I took on my recent trip to Colorado. This one is in HDR.

The Crystal Mill, or the Old Mill is an 1892 wooden powerhouse located on an outcrop above the Crystal River in Crystal, Colorado, United States. It is accessible from Marble, Colorado via 4x4. Although called a mill, it is more correctly denoted as a compressor station, which used a water turbine to drive an air compressor. The compressed air was then used to power other machinery or tools.

The mill was constructed in 1893 by George C. Eaton and B.S. Phillips, promoters of the Sheep Mountain Tunnel and Mining Company.[2] It was built as a power plant for the Sheep Mountain Tunnel.[2] Originally it had a horizontal waterwheel which generated compressed air for miners in the nearby silver mines.[2] It fell into disuse in 1917 when the Sheep Mountain Mine closed. The mill was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on July 5, 1985.[2];

A storm glass is a glass tube filled with multiple chemicals, and it is said that the weather in the near future can be known from the state of the solution, precipitation, and crystals.

Crystals have appeared today, so the weather will be bad soon.

The beads of the bracelet are all clear. It is the refraction of light within the bead that causes the color. The light source is from my cell phone’s LED light.

Some colorful pertrified wood found along the Crystal Forest Trail in Petrified Wood National Park, Arizona.

The 0.8 mile loop trail takes you into the remains of an ancient forest, where some 225 million years ago, 200-foot tall conifers dominated a tropical lowland. Time, climate, and geologic forces buried the trees in layers of mud and volcanic ash, leaving enormous fossilized remains for visitors of the modern age.

The fossilized trees of the Crystal Forest have an unusually high concentration of additional crystals inside the trees themselves — small pockets where the trees have become filled with deposits that eventually turned into quartz and amethyst crystals.

"Crystal" is the second transformation of my basic origami-tessellation: 'Blueprint', I want to show you.

1979 pencil drawing by Don Pearson of Tulsa, Oklahoma, The Crystal Mill, or the Old Mill is an 1892 wooden powerhouse located on an outcrop above the Crystal River in Crystal, Colorado, United States. It is accessible from Marble, Colorado via four-wheel drive. I was there on a high school 2 week mountain hiking camp in 1972. Returned for part of my honeymoon trip and caught the largest trout of my life in the pool below the waterfall under the mill in 1976.
