The Holy Cross which is situated in the west of the village and is the oldest building in Ryton dates back to 1220. The Architecture of the Church is Gothic, and the spire towers 120ft, it was built in three stages, it is octagonal and made from oak and covered in lead. The stainglass windows are believed to date from 1450.
The first rector, Alexander de Nola, was Italian and was appointed by Walter de Gray, Archbishop of Durham. There have been several distinguished rectors of Ryton, Thomas Secker (1727) who was to become the Archbishop of Canterbury. Charles Thorp (1807) Virtual Founder and first warden of Durham University. The Hon. Richard Byron (1769) brother of William, fifth Lord Byron.

Cross Estate is found within the New Jersey Brigade area in Jockey Hollow, NJ, a part of the Morristown National Historical Park. It was built in 1905 and provided a glimpse of wealthy living early in the 20th century. The main house and 5 story stone water tower can be seen in the photo.

Magellan's Cross is a Christian cross planted by Portuguese, and Spanish explorers as ordered by Ferdinand Magellan upon arriving in Cebu in the Philippines on April 21, 1521.
This cross is housed in a chapel next to the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño on Magallanes Street (Magallanes being the Spanish name of Magellan), just in front of the city hall of Cebu City.
Magellan's Cross is a symbol of Cebu, and the chapel's image can be found in its city seal. It is also seen as the symbol of Roman Catholicism in the Philippines.

My favorite books! Will have some video of the pretty model reading them beside a campfire soon.
They're all collectors editions! My books cost as much as my surfboards!

Kryžių kalnas, or the Hill of Crosses, is a site of pilgrimage about 12 km north of the city of Šiauliai, in northern Lithuania. The precise origin of the practice of leaving crosses on the hill is uncertain, but it is believed that the first crosses were placed on the former Jurgaičiai or Domantai hill fort after the 1831 Uprising. Over the generations, not only crosses and crucifixes, but statues of the Virgin Mary, carvings of Lithuanian patriots and thousands of tiny effigies and rosaries have been brought here by Catholic pilgrims. Wandering around Borough, I came across this by accident. The Southbank was the wild side of Medieval London and the river, and was a little legal black hole where prostitutes could work unharrassed by the authorities, under the protection of the Bishop of Winchester, no less (the ruins of whose palace can be seen on the other side of Borough Market. The prostitutes were known as 'Winchester's geese'.
The Bishop was a pimp, in other words. The prostitutes were not allowed to be buried in hallowed ground (despite having contributed to the building of the Bishop's palace), so they were buried here in an outcasts' cemetery.
Borough was the archetypal Dickensian slum in the 19th century, and the cemetery was declared full in 1853. Some bones were uncovered during the excavations for the Jubilee line extension. The property is now owned by Transport for London, and there is a local campaign for a garden of remembrance to be made.
