Here in Beaufort we have the most unique and fun businesses. This cupcake shop opened a little less than a year ago and have made their mark on our little town. The shop owners, husband and wife team are so sweet (as are their cupcakes!) and offer 50 different varieties!! I took my mom a chocolate peanut butter cupcake (pictured) and she loved it!! If you are in or around Beaufort, make sure you stop in at 1103 Boundary Street and pick one (or a dozen) up!! (Had to change out the collage pic I had up previously - and post just this cupcake pic - the bright colors were making me crazy!)
Some of the greatest artists are closed people, and I think we like it that way. We like the mystery, because we wish that we were mysterious. But we could never be that hidden. We try to be masked on a stage, but can't stop saying "Look at me". We can't stop saying it because we crave humanity, and even though we're moved by the hearts of the hidden masses, we desperately don't want to be one of them.
What have we got left? The only escape we can take is to be burning in public, inflammatory souls with bright cinder eyes. If we could shake and shiver with all the dirty honesty inside, maybe we wouldn't be so empty of comfort. The silent others went on and on because they couldn't or wouldn't be heard, and they were never ready to try. It aches to be invisible, but it stings and bleeds to be seen and disregarded. For the dull burn of the unknowing, we say, "Okay, I can handle it this way." If no one turns in my direction, at least I'll never fear their hate or lose their love.
Most of us don't know what it is to go for days or weeks without hearing a voice or seeing another person, or how it feels to have no one care as the dozens rock past in a city street. But I do, and I need. I crave the forgetfulness of feeling, I want to spread it around and make it clear that this day, and this long night, might be bereft of all comfort and companionship. In the dim, may we turn to ourselves, may we visit our memories, may we question our minds. May we give ourselves all that we ever wanted and never got. May we save our hearts from seeking others, and finally let them transfuse themselves.
We need to be alone, utterly separate and without an open arm or calming word. We need to close our lips and shut our doors and wait for the calling compass of other seeking souls. Only then will we know just how much the magnetism means.
According to my maps, this structure used to be the Post Office in "downtown" Craver. The tin awning seems to be indicative of this kind of building. This sits on Stonelick-Williams Corner Road in Craver.
