A galaxy is a massive, gravitationally bound system consisting of stars, an interstellar medium of gas and dust, and dark matter.[1][2] The name is from the Greek root galaxias [γαλαξίας], meaning "milky," a reference to the Milky Way galaxy. Typical galaxies range from dwarfs with as few as ten million[3] (107) stars up to giants with one trillion[4] (1012) stars, all orbiting a common center of mass. Galaxies can also contain many multiple star systems, star clusters, and various interstellar clouds. The Sun is one of the stars in the Milky Way galaxy; the Solar System includes the Earth and all the other objects that orbit the Sun.

Historically, galaxies have been categorized according to their apparent shape (usually referred to as their visual morphology). A common form is the elliptical galaxy,[5] which has an ellipse-shaped light profile. Spiral galaxies are disk-shaped assemblages with curving, dusty arms. Galaxies with irregular or unusual shapes are known as peculiar galaxies, and typically result from disruption by the gravitational pull of neighboring galaxies. Such interactions between nearby galaxies, which may ultimately result in galaxies merging, may induce episodes of significantly increased star formation, producing what is called a starburst galaxy. Small galaxies that lack a coherent structure could also be referred to as irregular galaxies.[6]

There are probably more than 100 billion (1011) galaxies in the observable universe.[7] Most galaxies are 1,000 to 100,000[4] parsecs in diameter and are usually separated by distances on the order of millions of parsecs (or megaparsecs).[8] Intergalactic space (the space between galaxies) is filled with a tenuous gas of an average density less than one atom per cubic meter. The majority of galaxies are organized into a hierarchy of associations called clusters, which, in turn, can form larger groups called superclusters. These larger structures are generally arranged into sheets and filaments, which surround immense voids in the universe.[9]

Although it is not yet well understood, dark matter appears to account for around 90% of the mass of most galaxies. Observational data suggests that supermassive black holes may exist at the center of many, if not all, galaxies. They are proposed to be the primary cause of active galactic nuclei found at the core of some galaxies. The Milky Way galaxy appears to harbor at least one such object within its nucleus.[10]

Raupenschlepper Ost, literally "Caterpillar Tractor East", is more commonly abbreviated to RSO. This fully tracked, lightweight vehicle was conceived in response to the poor performance of wheeled and half-tracked vehicles in the mud and snow during the Wehrmacht's first winter on the Soviet Front. The RSO may have been inspired by very similar full-tracked small tractors in use in other armies (such as the Soviet STZ-5 "Stalingradec"), mostly originated from the pre-war light to medium series of Vickers artillery tractors. Hope you guys like my MOC..never sure if you like the Vintage effect i use on some of my work..please let me know..also my stream has halfed as many pics got no actuvity for at least 6 months..they are still available on my Brickshelf account..was just no need to keep them on here..pics were really bad too..not that my current ones ain t..im always finding some problem with my work..enough i often think about giving up..after all i really am about the figs and weapons more than actually building..but they always add something cool for the figs so i will keep on keepin on :-)

Had Blank and Cross run behind a crate and hold position. Darklight and Eight-Four followed close behind. Darklight ran for cover... he was shot immediately. Eight-Four and I shot wildly at a desperate attempt to land a bolt on the sniper.

I've lost to many men under my control.

I'm wondering how I'm still alive.

Barn and Crate - 09/07/2020

I am proud to announce that I received 2nd Place in the 2011 International Photography Awards for my industrial series Along The River Rouge: Detroit's Industrial Mecca.

This however is not one of those images, just a large pile of apple crates.

Plastic fishing crates.

Taken at Whitstable Harbour, Kent, United Kingdom.

Each individual crate holds 3 weapons, and each stack of three crates contains all 9 weapons in the Offensive Combat Series 1. One side of the crate stack shows the U4iA logo, and the other shows the OC Series 1 graphic.

The printed crates pictured were given to the U4iA Games team (their headquarters are near my house) last month.

I may make these available in very limited quantities. I just received silver, red, green and blue chromed sets of the OC Series 1. Wouldn't they look great packaged in a stack of crates like this?

A tarp partially covers the doorway to a small shop, Lisbon

Like big cities almost anywhere, Lisbon contains a great variety of neighborhoods and ways of living. There are the popular tourist areas and squares and avenues, in some places lined with business and expensive stores. There are tourist-centric locations and sites. And there are side streets that you might not encounter unless you walk and get a little ways from those other spots, perhaps on a walk from one of them to another. We headed down some random streets between where we stayed and the waterfront area, and in doing so passed places like this shop.

Not that Lisbon or Portugal are the only places where you see such things, but there are a lot of little shops that have this sort of improvised, funky appearance. The elements hear a striking: the upturned basket holding back the “door” that seems to be a tarp. Inside this shop you could buy wine, candy, and various other little items..

Four pano-sabotaged photos of crates set up on a stage, almost as if they were already sabotaged.

Not sure why these two loved saluting me when posing for pictures, but it made me laugh. Having fun with kids and taking their pictures while in Togo was seriously a blast.
