Ulam Rajah leaf. It is eaten as a salad with sambal (a mixture of baked prawn paste and chillies) and is supposed to improve one's appetite.

“What is Creative Mondays?

Monday’s are always a drag. The start of a new week, you have to go back to that routine of going to bed early/get up early. If (like me) you have to commute then you prepare for that long journey into work and that long journey back for the first time after a nice two day break.

So to kick off those lousy Mondays, I’m going to get my creative mind flowing in a positive way. Creative Mondays. A chance for me to show off something unfinished or finished that I’ve been working on throughout the previous week.”

For those that don’t already know there’s a great new science TV programme (technically a remake of a classic) called Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey. Hosted by Neil deGrasse Tyson, the show discusses the history of the known universe and everything in it.

As mentioned many times before on this blog, the understanding of why we’re here, the galaxy and everything in it has always been something I’ve been fascinated in and I’m really looking forward to checking out this latest series. There’s more to update from Carl Sagan’s original show from the 80′s and hopefully a new generation to inspire.

I created this piece based off of the first episode (entitled “Standing up in the Milky Way”) where Tyson discusses how the Earth was ravaged by meteorites until it eventually cooled and could sustain life.

Cosmos Flower Blooming :)

Cosmos bipinnatus in the garden

One of the flowers, which successfully distributes their seeds by themselves, at least when the winter is not too cold. :-)

Another cosmos has flowered in my garden. Prepare for an influx of Cosmos photos LOL.

It is so hot here today and we had to pick up something I had bought which was near the city. While we were out, we decided to drive to the Northern Beaches to have fish and chips by the water for lunch. We couldn't find a park at any of the beaches and ended up double parking in a dead end street and eating our fish and chips in the car - at least we could see the water LOL.

How to draw cosmos with sumi ink.

Is there cosmos flower around you all?? It is cosmos and red maple leaves that reminds me of the autumn arrival. We have hit tune named "cosmos" in '70s. The Chinese charactor for cosmos is "cherry blossom of autumn". Cosmos is kind of flower we are familiar with. Few chances to see the real cosmos blooming in Tokyo life though...

Cosmos has bright colour flower with skinny line brunch. That gives us the impression of fleeting in the wind, a littel girl lingered in the field. It might be the reason of this flower popularity.

However, the flower is thick and the edge of flower split in two.

You might split the brush top or draw twice to depict this thick flower. The pistil is large and round shape in the center.

The diversity of the angle of flower face will tell us the wind blowing and the skinny flower are flickering. The angle of face is expressed by the length of each flower.

For face up : short down, long up, Face right : left long, right short, Face down : short up long down.

One flower must finish to draw with one ink dip so that you can obtain the gradation. On one paper, you should put thick black flower and white flower as well.

You express what you want to tell, with changing the angle and the density of each flower.

Just a little detail I liked on our wanders! Japan has this wonderful way of getting you to really look for the little things :)
