The cosmos are blooming very late this year... they suffered a lot from the heat and drought during summer and I thought they would never bloom... but after many days of rain and fresher days and nights they look healthy and bloom beautifully!

This Cosmos plant is still producing buds, and is right outside my window. Pink and purple amongst the otherwise mostly yellow and orange.
Taken on a misty Nottinghamshire morning, note the dew drops.
Thank you for visiting my stream !!

The common names, garden cosmos and Mexican aster, say it all. This plant is native to the Americas and is very common in gardens in moderate zones.
The biname bipinnatus describes the form of its leaves. Pinnate leaves are one where the leaves are reminscent of feathers (lat. pinnātus means feathered). Each leaf is devided into two rows of leaflets, which give them that feather-like look.
Bipinnate leaves or ones where the leaflets are again devided further to give that same impression at a smaller level. There are even plants with a tripinnate leaf structure.
"Cosmos Garden Watercolor" by Patti Deters. A bright and cheery group of three cosmos flowers and three pink buds brighten the summer garden in various shades of pink and red, all with blue and yellow centers and green fern-like foliage. Shown on a white background, the grouping creates a pretty garden scene in this minimal watercolor of pastel summer blooms.
