Another night sky shot from Namibia.
Location: the amazing Cañon Lodge (or Canyon Lodge), set among the granite boulders in a dark remote part of the country, not too far from the rim of the Fish River Canyon.
The only light (apart from the stars) was a faint yellow glow from the lodge where we were staying. Barely noticeable when I took this shot, it managed to light up the rocks on the left quite nicely, if slightly surreally.

As dusk descends upon the magnificent Grand Canyon, the celestial tapestry comes alive, adorned by the dazzling stars that pepper the darkened heavens. As one gazes up, their eyes are met with a mesmerizing display of twinkling brilliance, transforming the vast chasm into an ethereal wonderland. Like radiant beacons, the stars cast a gentle glow upon the ancient rock formations, enhancing their grandeur and immensity. Each speck of light tells a story of distant galaxies and cosmic phenomena, inviting the viewer to ponder the vastness of the universe and their own place within it.
The stars over the Grand Canyon captivate and inspire all who are fortunate enough to witness this awe-inspiring sight.

A few months ago I was wandering in the local woods alone, lost in my thoughts…
… which was the problem.
The thoughts that is. Pesky little things.
One, in particular, was being particularly insistent, a nagging witterer. Thankfully it didn’t classify as a Bright Idea: those are even worse.
‘Twas this. If you can take wiggly wobble shots of landscapes and trees, why not macros? You need to try some.
So I did.
I’m convinced I’d be a great photographer by now if only I could concentrate on one style and refine that. Sigh… it’s not me though, apparently :)
As it turns out macro ICMs do work, or at least work as well as I can get anything to work. I guessed I’d need to choose a subject with lines and contrasts and make small movements to reinforce the linearity. At least that’s what I tried.
Have you worked out what this is? It was taken on the same walk.
It’s a fern leaf and the brown bits are the sporing bodies on the surface. The descending green diagonal on the left is the leaf midrib. I guess it's about two or three inches across.
Now on to the next idea...

PS I have no idea what the title is meant to signify either. Sometimes inspiration... isn't :(

The Cosmic Ashtray as seen from the ridge above it. It is over 200 feet wide and more than 60 feet deep. It's a bowl of brilliant orange sand. The lump of sandstone in the middle is about 35 feet tall. The weather eroded this unusual formation. The amount of sand in the bowl and how it is arranged varies from year to year.
Traveling outside of town to various farms featuring pumpkin patches and farm animals, somehow I found myself amid the flowers. It was difficult to pull myself away from the Cosmos flowers. However, knowing there were more farms to visit compelled me to finally take my leave of the enchantment.

For Macro Mondays - Sidelit
At first I was angry that the chestnuts fell out of the shell - it was supposed to be a nice shape to another picture ... but after a closer look I discovered this funny face, with a second look I discovered the face of Pac-Man :) Macro Mondays group is a very inspirational and creative group and often gives a lot of surprising effects :)
