For Gustav Holst and Claude Debussy, the beauty of Earth and its surrounding planets inspired them not to collect data, but to compose music. Now, 100 years after the first performance of Holst’s “The Planets,” audiences had a chance to hear their music and see depictions of our awe-inspiring solar system simultaneously.
On Jan 27 and 28, the National Philharmonic Orchestra, in collaboration with NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, presented Cosmic Designs at the Music Center at Strathmore in North Bethesda, MD. In this marriage of music and space imagery, the orchestra performed Claude Debussy’s “La Mer” and Gustav Holst’s “The Planets.” Video producers at Goddard worked to collect depictions of our solar system’s planets, as well as Earth’s oceans to accompany the music. Using both satellite pictures and animations, this presentation illustrated tones in the music, making the audible narrative in the music come alive visually.

The first of a tribe of Brownies for the Forest Party!
Most of the others will be Cosmic Brownies like this one with little sprinkles , but a few will be Nutty Brownies with of course nuts on them.
He has strong magnets on his feet so he stands firm on metal surfaces and will stand pretty well on other stuff due to his wire skeleton inside. this also allows him to be posed in many different ways. Each will wear a different color cute little pointy hat and matching boots. Also hard to see in these pictures but i will add more later, but he has little vinyl and fleece wings too. And even a little loop in back so you can hang him from the ceiling!

It finally arrived, my copy of Daniel Simon's 'Cosmic Motors', 170 pages of wicked future-tech-vehicle concept art and illustration. Design porn, oh yeah!

She wanted surreal and I had awesome fun editing these! Reminds me loads of Florence + The Machine <3

Aside from the dark skies, the other main highlight is the wonderful Cosmic Cafe which is only opened for Okie Tex - that's right - only 7 nights a year. Jodi and her team of wonderful ladies cook up great burgers, hot dogs and chillis. Hot chocolate is self served - you scoop out the powder from this 2 gallon tub and add hot water.
You have to get used to seeing everything in red though - after 9 pm is red lights only - the 'cafe' is a working kitchen with a couple of tables and a serving counter, drenched in red from christmas tree lights strung up all round.
Reminiscent of seedy intergalactic cafes in a Star Wars setting, where cosmic travellers take a break after having traversed the universe without leaving home. :)
A minor, but still a real honest-to-God fault line runs through Cosmic Cavern. Evidence of it can be seen in the cavern roof.

I believe this is Cosmos? There were some glorious blooms in the front yard of my son's friends house..so I was compelled to snap a few shots..Love their contrasting colors..from beautiful magenta to a vivid yellow heart..
My favorite angle of this bloom..appears to be floating in space..such delicious pinks and yellows..a darker background really makes it stand out.

I want to be a Cosmic Bird,
and fly into your heart.
I've made my share of errors
but I've loved you from the start.
with wings made of stardust
and love within my head,
I wish to bring you love again,
and your heart back from the dead.
I know it seems crazy,
because there are larger fowl
that make less foul mistakes.
but my love for you is genuine,
and I'll do whatever it takes.
I'll teach you to dance
among the brightest of cosmos.
I'll teach you to sing
a song that nobody knows.
I'll give you my heart,
in exchange for yours.
and we can turn into Spacegulls,
and tour the dimensional shores
of this galaxy and beyond,
and then fly back to earth
when they day has dawned.
and I'll snuggle you into my nest.
and there let you rest.
because, of all the Cosmic Birds,
I've found that you're the best....
