A rare exotic moth flutters under the moon and steals through her lace curtains.. I couldn't even know if her curtains were lace but I imagine them so as she tells me her story.. I wish I could ask her.. his fluttering wings would stay there with her all night.
This is the magic and poetry of her, my dear friend April. The same gentle soul who taught me to crush delicate white egg shells from the kitchen and sprinkle them in the dark soil of my April in Paris roses. The bushes we got together and planted at the same time a thousand miles apart only a couple Springs ago now a bittersweet reminder of her grace and beautiful strength. Yesterday, we lost April and the world will never look the same without her sensibility and loving friendship that warmed me so..
My deepest sympathies to her friends here on Flickr that loved her and were there for her so fiercely and compassionately, you know who you are, you were a loving and driving force in April's life.
Sleep well my rose sister.
This is a self portrait April took for me last year.
In the foreground she also exhibits the beautiful gardenia Polaroids by her dear friend Susan .

“With courage you will dare to take risks, have the strength to be compassionate, and the wisdom to be humble. Courage is the foundation of integrity.” - Keshavan Nair
the world is complicated and often tragic. my heart breaks open with sadness and compassion. the dalai lama says, “it is under the greatest adversity that there exists the greatest potential for doing good, both for oneself and others.” right now, there is great potential for doing good. may we each take the next most skillful step toward wise, compassionate, impactful action.
I may not have my group "Working Towards a Better World" up and working anymore, but that has not stopped me from continuing to work towards a better world, with love, where we work together as a team, accept and support our diversity, respect our differences, and enjoy one another.

In honor of the souls lost so close to my home, let's please embrace each other a little more.
We are all too disconnected. We look for faults not similarities. We are not loving or compassionate enough. We have abandoned the village concept in favor 'every man for himself.' It's not every single one of us, but I find the gap between the next human being and me to be ever widening. I will hold a door open for 9 people and only one will even look up and notice. I smile and others often don't smile back. We are too busy. Too focused on owning things and being mad at politicians. Blame, anger, frustration, greed, anxiety, measuring success by the wrong things. This is a depressed place. We need to love more, accept more, give more, be accountable, kind and compassionate. It's in us. We have forgotten. I hope we can find within ourselves our light and start giving it away generously and with great hope.
The Sunset, Woven of Soft Lights
by Katharine Lee Bates
The sunset, woven of soft lights
And tender colors, lingers late,
As looking back on all day's dreary plights,
Compassionate;
— The foolish day of hopes so high,
Who counts her hours by blunders now,
Yet wears at last this jewel-crown of sky
Upon her brow.
Out to eternity she goes,
Not for her failure scorned, but see!
Our poor day flushed with beauty, one more rose
On God's rose-tree.
Compassionate humans are everywhere if we are willing to open our eyes and see the kindness of those around us. Compassion is human nature.
So why dont we as humans show more compassion and kindness towards our planet, to Mother Nature, the environment and nature surrounding us. It makes me wonder. Why are we destroying the beauty of nature?
Why dont we acknowledging the need of animals, and nature in general, and the importance of their survival, as well as showing interest in their well-being, after all we need nature to be able to live here on earth.
I want to yet again praise and thank Una and Bo for putting the environment on the agenda, by making this sim.
I hope many will visit, but I also hope and wish people will take the time to sit down and reflect about what they see on the sim, this could very well be a real life scenario if we dont stop and think. By doing so hopefully we can make some changes in the way we treat our planet and the environment, we can all do something, even if little. It is a fact that global warming and climate change is effecting all of us. Some of the things we all can notice are: pollution, global warming, overpopulation, waste disposal, ocean acidification, loss of biodiversity, deforestation, ozone layer depletion, and the list goes on....

“There are these two young fish swimming along, and they happen to meet an older fish swimming the other way, who nods at them and says, ‘Morning, boys, how’s the water?’ And the two young fish swim on for a bit, and then eventually one of them looks at the other and goes, ‘What the hell is water?’ ”

Compassion
Miller Williams
Have compassion for everyone you meet,
even if they don’t want it. What seems conceit,
bad manners, or cynicism is always a sign
of things no ears have heard, no eyes have seen.
You do not know what wars are going on
down there where the spirit meets the bone.
Kindness
Naomi Shihab Nye
Before you know what kindness really is
you must lose things,
feel the future dissolve in a moment
like salt in a weakened broth.
What you held in your hand,
what you counted and carefully saved,
all this must go so you know
how desolate the landscape can be
between the regions of kindness.
How you ride and ride
thinking the bus will never stop,
the passengers eating maize and chicken
will stare out the window forever.
Before you learn the tender gravity of kindness
you must travel where the Indian in a white poncho
lies dead by the side of the road.
You must see how this could be you,
how he too was someone
who journeyed through the night with plans
and the simple breath that kept him alive.
Before you know kindness as the deepest thing inside,
you must know sorrow as the other deepest thing.
You must wake up with sorrow.
You must speak to it till your voice
catches the thread of all sorrows
and you see the size of the cloth.
Then it is only kindness that makes sense anymore,
only kindness that ties your shoes
and sends you out into the day to gaze at bread,
only kindness that raises its head
from the crowd of the world to say
It is I you have been looking for,
and then goes with you everywhere
like a shadow or a friend.

What does love look like? It has the hands to help others. It has the feet to hasten to the poor and needy. It has eyes to see misery and want. It has the ears to hear the sighs and sorrows of men. That is what love looks like.

Friends can help each other. A true friend is someone who lets you have total freedom to be yourself - and especially to feel. Or, not feel. Whatever you happen to be feeling at the moment is fine with them. That's what real love amounts to - letting a person be what he really is.

"If you take a few moments, following your breath while looking at the moon, you become present and the moon will be more beautiful and brighter in your eyes.
Mindfulness energy is like the gentle moonlight shining on everything without discrimination, and all beings can be embraced and healed. In the same way, when you are mindful and fully present to your loved ones, they can feel recognized and embraced by your love.
Let us live in mindfulness and see the beautiful qualities in our loved ones, and recognize the wonders in the universe."
- "The Song of The Moon" by Thich Nhat Hanh (1926-2022).
This week saw the passing of a giant. A human being so compassionate, so peaceful, so humble, and so utterly undogmatic that his death almost passed without notice in the world's media. I dedicate this picture to the beloved Vietnamese Buddhist monk, Thich Nhat Hanh. plumvillage.org/about/thich-nhat-hanh/
Now before you respond and say that such an irreverent piece of photo art is not worthy of the beloved Thay (as he was known to his millions of friends), I would invite you to take a look at any one of his 100 books and tell me why this monk could not smile. But smile Thay did, and he encouraged everyone to do it.
Two years ago this humble and tired old man, who trod lightly upon this earth, made the decision to return to his homeland after 35 years at Plum Village, the community he founded in France. He had left an exile for his outspoken opposition to the Vietnam War. And I believe that until the day he died, the Vietnamese communist government kept close watch on this dangerous subversive.
But Thay was also considered subversive in America too. In 1967 the peace-loving Dr Martin Luther King nominated him for the Nobel Peace Prize (it was worth more then than it is now having been tainted by some of its more recent recipients). An argument could be made that this decision by King to oppose the Vietnam War is what got him killed. One thing is certain, supporting civil rights was okay, but opposing America's involvement in the "sacred" war on communism was not. But Thay survived and thank God he did.
The community he built around the world, not just at his monasteries in Europe and in Asia, consists of people of all faiths who seek Awakening. He was Buddhist by conviction and calling, but he would rather we didn't think of this in religious terms. Oh the ritual is there, and it's all important to a point, but what is most important of all is discovering the wisdom on the path of life. A Wisdom that is truly Eternal (and Thay would not shirk from this word in the midst of a Materialistic onslaught in the contemporary world).
His beautiful Song of the Moon, which I've quoted above, is as good as any of his statements about life. Because in essence, the Wisdom of the Path is quite simple, though the practice is arduous.
I received word of Thay's death almost the moment it happened, as I have been a recipient of his wonderful newsletters that would come to my email every few weeks. It was not unexpected, but I still felt a deep sense of what the world has lost by this unique man's testimony. Thay's borrowed body was cremated yesterday in Vietnam, but his spirit lives forever in everyone who takes his words to heart.
PHOTONOTE:
Needless to say this is not an actual photograph, but it consists of real photographs taken by me. That giant moon you see is in fact the very same moon you saw in my previous few shots. With a little resizing and cloning I was able to create an image more expressive of the importance of the moon. Oh, and for the groups that reject my photo montages as "not real photographs", I just assure you this is neither a second life screenshot nor AI.
I think the purpose of life is to be useful, to be responsible, to be honorable, to be compassionate. It is, after all, to matter: to account, to stand fo r something, to have made difference that you lived at all. ~~ Leo C. Rosten

What I value the most in this life is freedom and the responsibility that comes with it. I cannot understand that we use our freedom to coerce, to threaten, to ridicule, to despise, to deny someone else's freedom and right to live in peace. Violence is any attack to this fundamental right we should all possess as humans. I said it many times already, and I will say it many more: I do not understand violence. I do not understand any form of violence. I do not understand any form of aggression. Violence is a foul word said to hurt; violence is speaking loud to mute the other; violence is raising a hand; violence is putting chains to someone's freedom and independence; violence is using, abusing, bullying, disregarding, showing contempt, disrespecting, controlling, laughing at someone; violence is not regarding and treating others as equals.
I do not understand violence and I am horrified of violence of men against women and children, any form of physical and/or psychological violence. I am father of the most precious and amazing woman I ever met and will ever meet. She is the most beautiful, talented, smart and caring woman and I couldn't be prouder of her. I did my best to raise her to be independent, a critical free-thinker, compassionate, proud owner of her freedom and its great responsibility. I don't want anybody to treat her less than that, let alone use violence, any form of violence, against her. And what is true for my daughter, is true for every woman and every child in the World.
All men are the sons of women, of beautiful, talented, smart and caring women, and many of us are fathers too of amazing girls who have every right to be free spirits and enjoy a dignified life in peace, to pursue their dreams freely, taking and exercising responsibility, unthreatened and feeling protected, supported and valued by us. We, sons and fathers, must take pride of who we are, of our strength to give always support to our partners, girl friends, mothers, sisters, daughters, or any woman and child we meet.
I do not understand violence. I do not understand violence against women and children. But I know I am utterly and radically against it.

Today is Lunar 0619, My late pseudo Mom's Birthday. Although She physically abused me, even cursed me many times! lead to my physical & Soul damages. But I still thanks her for up bringing of me. As I said on podium repeatedly. As Buddha said: Parents Merits are enormously! I pray that all people on earth would have Conscience & Virtues, abstain from doing evils, Compassionate Love to all, then all people on earth will be dwell in Nirvana.
Merry Christmas, dear friends !!
There is no conflict between freedom and peace, but often freedom is bargained to buy peace or peace is spent up to secure freedom....both can prosper together so long they emerge out of soul--praying, loving, compassionate and respectful.
The essence of holy message of Lord is yet to reach our heart: we need to be soulful !!

This is raw SL and smaller than I normally shoot, but I don't care.
I don't have the words to express how eternally grateful I am for everyone in this photo (specifically Steph), on the fringe that I couldn't fit in this photo, and many others not in SL anymore or have passed on to the great beyond (Millie, Diana, Laryn, etc.). I've been blessed to connect with so many people from around the world that I never would have encountered in my normal life. In big ways or small, positively or negatively, everyone has influenced me and my life and helped me to learn and grow. I never felt the necessity to alt out because feeling the pain of loss or heartbreak was all part of life (second or first) and the growth process, and has made me a better, more compassionate, more understanding human being today.
2 decades in SL (on Monday) is crazy talk when I say it and I've never really taken any significant breaks. I would say "Here's to 20 more!" but I think that's a pipe dream to believe SL will still be here in 20 years. (then again it was just ludicrous for SecondLife to be around for the 21 years it has been) I'll just say this: Here's to all of my fantastic friends! May we have many more great years with all sorts of inciteful, impactful, ridiculous, hilarious, and fun experiences and adventures.
..but clear reflections..of a simple village life.
Despite the daily hardships, people in the villages are happy and much more accepting and compassionate towards their environment and all who are in it...
Hope you have a lovely Sunday.

Space and time
A theater of the possible
At the intersection of myth and magic
This is how I remember my time on Cumberland Island with a group of fearless artists, compassionate souls, creative spirits... my tribe.
With courage you will
dare to take risks,
have the strength to be
compassionate, and the
wisdom to be humble.
Courage is the foundation
of integrity.
~Mark Twain
52:41 “If a photographer cares about the people before the lens and is compassionate, much is given. It is the photographer, not the camera, that is the instrument.”
This is my eldest grandson: 10 going on 20. He's bright, sensitive, outgoing, athletic, creative and my snuggle bear.
Wisely, Step 10 does not emphasize a moral inventory, which becomes too self-absorbed and self-critical, but speaks instead of a “personal inventory.” In other words, just watch yourself objectively, calmly, and compassionately. You will be able to do this from your new viewing platform and perspective as a grounded child of God. “The Spirit will help us in our weakness” (Romans 8:26). From this most positive and dignified position, we can let go of, and even easily admit, our wrongs. We are being held so strongly and so deeply that we can stop holding onto, or defending, ourselves. God forever sees and loves Christ in us; it is only we who doubt our divine identity as children of God.
We now have an implanted position and power whereby we can see ourselves calmly and compassionately, without endless digging, labeling, judging, or the rancor that we usually have toward our own imperfection. Don’t judge, just look can be our motto— and now, with the very eyes of God. That will awaken consciousness, and then things will usually take care of themselves, with even the least bit of honesty and courage. A wonderful Indian Jesuit, Anthony de Mello (1931–1987), used to say, “Awareness, awareness, awareness!”…
… To be fully conscious would be to love everything, on some level and in some way—even our mistakes. To love is to fall into full consciousness, which is contemplative, non-dualistic, and includes everything—even “the last enemy to be destroyed, which is death itself” (1 Corinthians 15:26). That is why we must, absolutely must, love!
-BREATHING UNDER WATER SPIRITUALITY AND THE TWELVE STEPS, RICHARD ROHR
There is love here
Love that you can find
Open hearted and totally free
One of a kind
There for you and me
He’s always waiting
Humble
Compassionate
How is this possible
Why does he do this
How can this be
Because there is always a need
Someone hurt
Someone dying
Someone grieving
Put your doubts aside
Lay your burdens at his feet
He will meet your arguments
With a sweet logic
Its all quite simple
When you believe

This image probably does not need me to say much at all about it - I think it is one of those images that will affect you emotionally if you are a spiritual person, but just maybe, might affect those who are not but wonder why.
Really the credit should go to the sculptor, as whoever created this wonderful depiction of Christ has caught something otherworldly, and it felt that way when I stood before it in Ocklynge Cemetery in my home town of Eastbourne on the Sussex coast of the UK.
There is this inward meditative quality about Christ’s expression that speaks to you on a deep level where his innate compassion is written upon his face for us to see.
And here we are in remembrance of the Saturday after his crucifixion..after every death there is this disbelief, a void. Will we ever feel joy again, and how do we escape this pain. Questions arise with no answers.
But the gift of being human is to be able to love. And to love and lose that love brings a unique pain. And this is what Christ learnt in His time here on this earth. But once experienced you know that it is a treasure you know you would never have wanted to not have experienced. This love enables us to carry those memories with us, and continue to love the person we have lost to the next world, even though they are no longer with us physically. There is also joy in knowing we will see them again, and this was Christ’s message for us, as He came to reassure His friends and disciples after His death. This space of time before that happened on Easter Sunday is important in letting grief shed your doubts. It is as if we have to be flayed of everything we once judged as sensible, reasonable and logical. Only then does the light of understanding descend.
I have paired this work with George Harrison’s “My Sweet Lord”, where we can hear the longing in his voice to be reunited with his God. Please find the link below.
Until tomorrow, I will leave you with this wonderful song, and this beautiful depiction of Christ in Ocklynge Cemetery I was lucky enough to find.
And if you would like to see more of my work, have a look at my website at:
It doesn’t make you too emotional, too soft, or in any way too much. It has been and always will be a strength.
The truth is that you can be soft and still be strong.
You aren’t a rock, immune to the shift and pull off the world around you.
You’re the ocean. Always ebbing and flowing; easily affected by the moon and weather. But immense and deep.
Resilient and powerful.
Bounding with life. Yes, you feel things intensely and yes, you’re wounded by others.
But it’s the intensity of your feelings that gives you such incredible insight into who you are and what you need to feel whole.
It’s that intensity that makes you deeply connected to yourself and the world around you.
And it’s your wounds that allow you to be empathetic and compassionate towards the wounds of others.
Wounds that give you an awareness to recognize when people are hurting, and tools to offer support in ways that less sensitive people might not be able to.
I know that it’s so hard to believe in the moment when your cells are incapacitated by your feelings, but your sensitivity is truly a gift.
Don’t let anyone, including yourself, convince you otherwise.

Such a compassionate and caring male mountain bluebird! He was doing his best to consider my comfort and wellbeing during a spring snowstorm.
While out photographing bluebirds during a spell of inclement weather, I noticed this handsome fellow land on the hood my my car, and decided to get a shot or two. It flashed its wings very briefly, then flew away. It seemed to be giving me a message about retreating to my vehicle to warm up! What a nice guy!
Or maybe it was simply signaling something to its mate as the female landed on the exact same spot just a couple seconds later. Although I may be 'bird-brained' at times, I would never claim to be able to truly decipher the thoughts of a bluebird, but it was fun to speculate.
Some of the remaining commercial buildings on Chandlerville's Main St. are clearly in better shape than others. The gradual deterioration of this once vibrant business district is by no means unique to Chandlerville, nor is it an accurate representation of the town as a whole. But creating or attracting new businesses, fixing up old buildings and removing those that are beyond repair, and making towns like this a distinct alternative to urban living is a major challenge.
The following description is credited to America's History channel on YouTube: The History of Chandlerville (Cass County), Illinois.
…..
Nestled amidst the rolling hills of central Illinois, Chandlerville stands as a testament to the pioneering spirit of the American frontier. Its history intertwined with the growth of the state it a tale of resilience, determination and community.
In 1832 Charles Chandler, a physician from Rhode Island, ventured into the Sangamon River valley seeking a place to establish his practice. Drawn to the fertile land and scenic beauty of the region, he decided to settle on a bluff overlooking the valley where he built a log cabin and began treating the area's growing population.
News of Chandler's medical expertise spread rapidly and soon settlers from miles around sought his care. His reputation as a skilled and compassionate doctor earned him the respect and admiration of the community.
As the settlement around Chandler's cabin grew, it became known as Chandlerville in honor of its founder. In 1836 the village was officially platted marking the beginning of its transformation into a thriving frontier town.
The early years of Chandlerville were characterized by rapid growth and economic prosperity. The town's location along a major stage coach route facilitated trade and commerce attracting businesses and settlers alike. By the mid-1850s, Chandlerville boasted a bustling downtown area with stores, hotels, and blacksmith shops serving the needs of the surrounding communities.
The arrival of the railroad in 1857 further fueled Chandlerville growth. The town became a regional hub for agriculture products with grain elevators and warehouses storing and shipping the bounty of the surrounding farms.
Chandlerville prosperity continued through the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The town played a significant role in the region's social and cultural life hosting community events, fairs, and religious gatherings.
The 20th century brought challenges and changes to Chandlerville as the economy shifted away from agriculture and the population declined.
…..
Chandlerville's population at the 2020 census stood at 527. This central Illinois community is located 37 miles WNW of Springfield, the state capital.
She was always kind, supportive, and compassionate. We learned so much from her. All her family and friends were better off from knowing her.
Welcome to 2016! Some how the new year doesn't seem complete unless I take another look at the great orangutans of Taman Park in Indonesia. I took many shots of these wonderful creatures when I was there six years ago.
I keep finding a few that you haven't seen yet. They seem to embody the end result of all of the excesses of the holidays. On the flip side, the park is protecting the creatures from the excesses of humans who are completely destroying their habitats in the name of greed. Don't buy palm oil!!!
I am sorry to say that you haven't seen as much of me on Flickr in the past several months. Greed is not confined only to the rain forests of Indonesia. It is a world wide epidemic and is perhaps the one most important thing that is destroying America.
We have an Presidential election happening this year! Already some candidates have insulted the rest of the world more than most of us can believe. They don't speak for the majority of Americans and we are embarrassed.
Americans are engaged in a huge battle to keep America government responsive to the needs of all Americans; not corporations or the insanely wealthy businessmen. It is a pivotal point in our history, I believe, and so i have joined the fight for our democracy on social media. It is a fight against all odds. It is a fight against corruption at all levels including our media. Hopefully the compassionate and caring people of the United States will prevail.

Excerpt from waterdownvillage.ca/chairing_is_caring/:
Chairing is Caring is an exciting downtown art project celebrating local artists and telling stories of the diverse communities that are part of Waterdown Village. This summer, you’ll find painted Muskoka chairs in outdoor gallery locations at sponsor businesses bringing vibrancy to our streetscape and providing interesting places to sit and relax.
Each chair focuses on a theme as interpreted by the artist and is tied to a non-profit organization that supports an equity-deserving group. Collectively, the series highlights the compassionate and collaborative soul of our Village.
The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members.

What are Dreamers without their parents? How will these children ever grow up to love the country that betrayed and took so much away from them?
I was lucky to be raised by parents who taught me to be compassionate and speak my mind and I am thankful every day for that. But, being empathetic in this current world means you spend so much of your time also feeling depressed about reality. There is far too much hate in America right now.
My friends, I am astounded and so moved by the thoughtful, kind and compassionate responses and inquiries I have received since my last image. You truly make me believe in the better side of humankind. If I could hug each one of you I would. Thank you so much♡♡♡
