Traditionally the small vans and pick-ups from Mitsubishi and Ford were favourites among owners of small businesses and restaurants. CMC started locally assembling the third generation in the late seventies, early eighties. The fourth generation was launched in 1982 in Japan and found its way to Taiwan after some time. In 1988 the Minicab was refreshed and renamed to Varica. The fifth generation Minicab never made it to Taiwan.
The sixth generation Mitsubishi Minicab and Town Box was launched in 1999 and a few years later CMC launched the Taiwanese version called Veryca. Its wheelbase and overall length are longer than the Japanese kei car, while the 660 cc engine was replaced by a 1.1-litre petrol engine. Later versions had a 1.2-litre engine and currently it is powered by a 1.3-litre mill. Like the Mitsubishi Zinger (since the 2016 facelift) and Leadca (old facelifted Canter), the Veryca is sold with CMC-badges on the Taiwanese market.

The Mitsubishi Zinger was launched at the end of 2005 and is a development by the Taiwanese China Motor Corporation (CMC). It received a second, quite substantial facelift in September 2015 and was rebranded as CMC Zinger. The Zinger is based on the old Mitsubishi Triton (L200) and Pajero Sport platform and comes with a 2.4-litre petrol engine. Prices start at 613,000 TWD or just over 18,400 €. It's still one of the best-selling cars out of the Mitsubishi/CMC line-up. The car in the background is a Toyota Zace Surf, a car similar in concept which was succeeded by the Innova, still the main rival of the Zinger.

To me, this face-lifted eighth generation is absolutely the best looking one that CMC Mitsubishi has ever put the market among the whole Lancer lineup through generations, the spoilers and the darkened rims are the key elements that enhance the sporty character of the car.
Ah, this is the icon of New York that is no more. The morning after my mom left on her own back for Toronto, I walked towards the more industrial part of Queens from my hotel and was rewarded by the sight of this vintage Checker Motors taxicab!

Dumped 762mm gauge Plymouth type 'JCD' 4-wheel diesel-mechanical 'C.M.C. 7' (W/No.3985 built in 1939) at Cyprus Mines Corporation, Karavostasi on 19th March 2005, and languishing in this same position for over 30 years, since the hostilities on the island in July 1974.
