Shot taken for Saturday Self Challenge , Skyscapes ! May the Fourth Be With You !
Well with only one and a bit days of something other than grey skies , Monday was the day to get out with the camera pointed upwards . Took about three dozen shots with various themes in the sky - challenge then is to choose one pic to post . Therefore , one is singled out and converted to a dramatic mono shot with clouds imploding and exploding - maybe because of all the stuff we are asking our skies to cope with . Just like plastics in the oceans the air now is suffering from , not only toxic gases being pumped skywards , it now has to cope with electronic pollutions - and wonders what all these signals bouncing around are doing to our brains !!
Think I might have missed a shot or two Wednesday as the lightening show in the depths of the night were quite spectacular , but as yet I have never got a lightening capture !!
However , there were still a number of not chosen shots , so a quadriptych can be seen in the first comment box --
top left -- A very high flyer
top right -- Is that a Luck Dragon like in The Never Ending Story flying through the air ?
bottom left -- It's like Piccadilly Circus up there , hope air traffic control are on the ball !!
bottom right -- Another high flyer diving into the clouds ( and the culprit can be seen !! )
See you on the other side of the blackhole !!
Could not choose , so here are three tracks to tune into for a trip through the skies ----

Since Iām back from my vacations, I moan constantly about the bad weather I had. I always show you my pictures with thunderstorms anywhere and at any time and also with slogans like āThe thunderstorm, which almost caused my deathā, āHow to survive a thunderstorm in five stepsā, āCulinary kitchen with lightningā or āBreakfast for a few thunders moreā :-) However, my pictures showed only a small part of the landscape. But the thunderstorms were massive and quite honestly ⦠I never experienced such a time in my entire life! Therefore I want to show you the enormous extent of one storm over the whole valley, which was briefly interrupted by a cloudburst. Imagine, here there are mountain peaks of 2ā000 to 3ā000 meters altitude. But as you can see ⦠no peaks in sight because the clouds conceals everything ;-(
Moreover I constantly mention our dog Giorgio and perhaps someone is wondering how he looks like. Therefore I want to show you a photo of me with our dog Giorgio. Giorgio is my constant companion on my walks and wherever I make photos, he is always with me and together we experienced many adventures :-) It is unbelievable how small and humble we are compared to this natural spectacle!
I want to thank all very much for your "views", "Comments" and "Favourites" :-) The only thing that matters is that you have joy in this photo. Again, thank you :-)

Spring Squall and Wildflowers. Ā© Copyright 2023 G Dan Mitchell.
A squall moves aross the distant landscape beyond a plain filled with spring wildflowers.
Almost everything about this photograph is transitory, with the arguable exception of the distant hills and mountains. This is an extremely dry place for most of the year, but following wet winters it may erupt into a remarkable show of wildflowers for a few weeks around the beginning of April. The rain the light in the photograph are more transitory than the flowers. It was a windy, post-storm day here, and cloudbursts and cloud shadows were racing across the landscape.
Thereās always a bit of luck involved in landscape photography. We may like to imagine that we can control all of the elements that make a photograph of such subject, but our skill and knowledge merely improve the odds a bit. In the end, we work with what we get. Another stroke of luck in this photograph: the passing cloudburst was in the direction of the afternoon sun, so it was lit from behind.

Every sunset is different, because every day; sun
is different, clouds are different, space is different,
reflections are different....mountains are different,
fogs are different, and above all, we are different.

Yesterday, we had our first real rain for very many weeks. At one point, there was a mini tornedo with a considerable amount of water falling. It didn't appear to worry our neighbouring cat though. She just continued to slumber under the maple tree canopy where she escaped most of the deluge.

Was about to put boots on to go out... but started hailing!

Yesterday at 6:42pm, it was raining in Downtown Boston but not in the Back Bay (and this raincloud passed over us in Somerville only like 10 min before!). View from Prospect Hill Tower, which isn't usually open but was opened briefly for tours by the historical society. Shot with Sony a6000 and Rokinon 12mm lens.
As we drove back from the Lakes, via the Dales (well why go direct?!) we noticed this cloudburst as we headed up toward Tan Hill. We'd been caught in a similar one at Aira Force so thought it apt to pay homage.

of her through her red-veiled glow. She never actually came
out...but we all knew she was back there! Thanks for looking.

Decaying shelf cloud.
Observe the right half of the scene being thick solid grey. That's the mother of all cloudbursts that flooded large swathes of Strathearn.
Note to self: do not drive under a shelf cloud again.
